The Southern California Linux Expo is coming up. It's going to be held at the Hilton LAX on February 25-27, 2011. About 1,400-1,500 attendees are anticipated this year. It's one of the largest Open Source conferences in the US and THE largest run completely by volunteers.
Volunteers are needed to run the LA Drupal booth for about 9 hours on Saturday the 26th and 6 hours on Sunday the 27th. Answering questions, handing out stuff, showing what you love about Drupal and promoting Drupal in general will be your tasks.
A volunteer is also need to coordinate the other volunteers and manage the booth.
Please post comments with your availability and ideas for the booth.

Sign me up! I should be able to both days but at the very least I'll be there on Sunday since that day has historically had fewer people to staff the booth.
I can help on Saturday
But only for about 3-4 hours in the afternoon (after 1pm)

Hi Ron,
Sign me up for Saturday or Sunday. I can be there first thing to help set up. Also I am happy to donate a background banner for the booth. Something we can use over and over. We need a designer to create it.
Thanks to people that
Thanks to people that volunteered so far. Just to be clear, I'm not the one coordinating the booth or volunteers. I'm just calling for volunteers. We really need someone to step up and act as the coordinator. Also, it would be advisable to have a minimum of two people in the booth at any time.

I would like to step up to handle coordinating volunteers for the booth. If you still need it, contact me: jeff@jeffreysorgen.com.
sweet! done!
Hey Jeff - I'll send you all you need to know. and will be available to help. I've coordinated the booth the last three years... and was hoping to enjoy the show a bit more this year.
also, I'd suggest editing your comment and removing your email since your contact form is turned on.

SCALE wiki is alive!
The event WIKI is alive and active!
Head over to the wiki to learn about the event, and add whatever information you can to the post.
Some have expressed interest in volunteering, so make it official on the WIKI Schedule.
Make edits and put yourself on the schedule:

How can I help?
I love the SCALE. this will be my 4th or 5th time. Last year, I met Rain and a couple others for the first time @ the Drupal booth...how I learned about the meetups. Since I am not quite yet Drupal savvy--Maybe I can help with some logistics, setup or takedown...whatever you like.
Sasha
Anything is good.
Thanks, Sasha.
Your help would be great! Add your name to the schedule in the wiki, or contact me and I can put you on the list for specific times.

Are there any instructions
Are there any instructions for the volunteers this weekend? Do we just show up? What are the primary goals for this booth? What kinds of information are we trying to disseminate to people at the booth?
Here's some info
Howdy Paul. I spoke with Jeff last nite @the meetup & he said he'd be sending info out today or tomorrow. From years past, the way it goes is you get a code so that when you register online, you don't have to pay (since you're volunteering).
The primary goals are usually to talk about Drupal & the LA Drupal user group (to get more attendees as well as potential speakers). Folks, invariably, ask "what is Drupal" but since this year OC Drupal also has a booth, we might not get as many of those questions. Folks usually provide examples of Drupal sites or what other folks are doing with Drupal & the various Drupal distributions. What I noticed last year was a couple folks basically pushing/promoting their Drupal services quite a bit on visitors to the booth. Volunteers to the booth also had some of their business cards on the table which I think is cool but also noticed business cards on the table of folks who weren't volunteering at the booth at all. Not sure how that's all gonna work this year, tbh.
I'd suggested to Maureen that, since Oversee's looking to hire a Drupal dev, it might be a good idea to have a little postcard-sized info sheet w/the job description but unsure if she's talked to you.
Overall, it's about having fun & sharing the Drupal kool-aid w/the open source aficionados that visit SCALE. There's more suggestions on the wiki like being familiar w/some of the latest trends in Drupal (via, i.e., Drupal Planet): http://groups.drupal.org/node/120859.
HTH.
p.s. Someone might want to change "drupal" to "la drupal" in the exhibitors area as its misleading to attendees (wouldn't want to get in trouble w/Dries! hehe): http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale9x/exhibitors/drupal
pps. Speaking of the exhibitors link above, do we really need this paragraph in it?
