Interested in giving back to Drupal? We'll be doing it all day in Long Beach.
- Want to learn how?
- Do you already know how and would like to collaborate with others?
Special thanks to our hosts, LA Net, a community-based Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) focused on health disparities reduction in Southern California.
LA Net is providing their office space for our venue, wifi, a projector, free parking, and plus its close to lots of good food all walking distance. Come collaborate with us and learn by doing or helping others. This is the first of a series of monthly events to get together and give-back to Drupal. The schedule is loose and I'm open to ideas, but the main idea is to set aside a day, and contribute! It also happens to be one of the the best ways to learn or expand your knowledge of Drupal.

What to Bring
Bring your laptop, some food for you to eat & drink, or a little cash for lunch and dinner. We also have a small refrigerator for drinks, etc. The venue holds 10-15 comfortably, and has three separate rooms which are good for break-outs. We will have a projector and likely one or two people sharing on the overhead during collaboration or when answering questions. If you have a Mac, be sure to bring your VGA dongle. I am also open to the idea of hosting an online meeting, or simply working together in IRC.
Who Should Come?
Everyone. All Drupal skill levels: Designers. Developers. Architects. Users. This event is free and open to everyone, no RSVP is required. Those who sign up, however, will have last-minute details (if there are any) sent to them before the meeting. It's also good to know how many to expect so that we can arrange the office adequately, and for others that are planning to bring snacks to share. So please sign up by RSVPing at the bottom of this announcement.

I'll be there
I should be there. I may even be willing to share some insight on iPhone+Drupal integration. But, I am interested in teaching more people Drush to help them "do Drupal" faster.
Chris Charlton, Author & Drupal Community Leader, Enterprise Level Consultant
I teach you how to build Drupal Themes http://tinyurl.com/theme-drupal and provide add-on software at http://xtnd.us
I am going to try and attend remotely
I really wish Long Beach was closer to home since this really sounds like a fantastic meetup. So I am going to try and come on IRC to help out (though I will miss on the iphone/drupal integration :() with whatever is going on.
I will likely be running team
I will likely be running team viewer on my laptop... it is cross-platform (ie., supports linux) and others can access my desktop in a tab of your browser. we can also keep a conf call running using a free conference call service.

Noobs welcome?
I'm still pretty raw in Drupal, but I'd like to get more exposure, and am pretty good helping out with this and that. (I can set up chairs and such, copy edit instruction text, UI labels etc, and bloviate..).
On the take side... right now I'm fumbling around with a Drupal 7 site on Drupalgardens - some help with that would be much appreciated...
Craig, we'd love to have you,
Craig, we'd love to have you, but the main idea behind this is setting aside some time to give back to drupal. idea of this is not a typical meetup (where users help users / network / etc). i expect there will be a lot of learning by doing, or looking over the shoulder of someone else that is working on something - and thereby pickup some knowledge.
I'm hoping to have 1-2 projectors at the meetup, where its easier to share or for a group to work on a task. we have two conf rooms that can each hold 6-8 people working, and another that can be used for small breakout/hangout room.

oops missed your title.
oops missed your title. noobs are definitely welcome. even encouraged. the main idea is to set aside time and "do" something to help drupal.
some possibilities:
goofing off inside the venue is (mostly) discouraged,,, i mean we'll have fun... and will definitely need to break one or more times through the day... and withing a very short walk, there's a really nice sportsbar or awesome thai restaurant we can crash

Thanks Mike. Sounds like I
Thanks Mike.
Sounds like I might be able to find some way to help out, while absorbing more Drupal.
this sounds great!
Ill be there. Chris, Im really looking forward to learning more about drush and drush make.
If there's anything I can do to help out, please just let me know.
This looks like it'll be a fun day!
Wish I could make it
Sounds like a great event, Mike! Not looking like I'm going to be able to make it but I'd like to help get the ball rolling. Here's a Drupal Dojo session right up this event's alley: giving back via the Issue Queue.

Only downside is GoToMeeting is only Windows & Mac-friendly so if you're on Linux, gotta spin up a VM, etc.
Hope this helps.
