Since a couple of people going to the Chicago DrupalCon have talked about going to deep dish pizza as a group, I did a little research to keep the discussion going.
Pizzeria Uno’s original locations are only half a mile from the Drupal Tower. Chicago-style deep-dish pizza was invented at Pizzeria Uno in 1943. And while Pizzeria Uno was sold and franchised in the 80’s it is my understanding the first two locations, Pizzeria Uno and Pizzeria Due, have not changed and have the original menu.
Does anybody have another recommendation?
The down side is unlike the corporate Pizzeria Unos outside of Chicago the original locations do not have much to offer for those who have a wheat dietary restriction. The only options are the salads, but there is one that sounds good with mozzarella cheese and salami.
Are there any other restaurants close by that have a greater menu selection?
During the week Pizzeria Due takes reservations for lunch and dinner. So we will probably want to go there.
The piazzas take 45 minutes to cook, but for lunch they have the most popular pizzas available on the express menu, which take only 20 minutes. The manager says the express pizza is just as good, the only difference is the pizza menu is limited.
When to go? These times make the most sense to me
Option one: Tuesday March 8th, after we take the group photo at 11:00 a.m. this gives us little over an hour to take a cab there and back and to eat. This is doable with a reservation but we will have to order on the express menu.
Option two: Wednesday March 9th at 6:30 for dinner. The restaurant is only about 3 blocks from the Lullabot party, which starts at 8:00.

Pizzeria Due
My wife is originally from Chicago and she swears by Pizzeria Due. If they offer shipping on dry ice I'll take two please!
Have a great conference it sounds like loads of fun.

Due is good
If you're serious about finding some of the great deep dish (or, if you're a real hedonist, stuffed) pizza, it's my opinion that you have to leave the loop and go to Art of Pizza, 3033 N Ashland. While I lived in Chicago, I tried something like 50+ pizza places, and this one was consistently my favorite. All their pizza styles are good (thin, deep dish, stuffed), and they do slices throughout the day. I went back over and over.
Closer to the loop, and close to a Red Line stop, is Bacino's. Also very good, but I found them late in my stay there, so I only hit them a couple times.
In the loop, though, Due, Giordano's, and Gino's East are all pretty good.
I could go on, and if I were able to attend DrupalCon myself and rope people into going where I recommend, I might. :)
Thanks for the input
chellman and ahimsauzi thanks for the input, to bad you guys are not going, I'd bring a pie back for you if I could.
