Back in early 2006, there was no Los Angeles Technology Community to speak of. But this changed in March of 2006, when an ad hoc technology conference, called Barcamp was brought to Los Angeles. It was inspired by an O'Reilly conference (FooCamp) earlier that year, where the attendees were the speakers and presenters. (Foo/Bar - get it?! ;) )
Unlike traditional conferences, at Barcamp there was no set schedule, no programmed speakers. There were no attendees or expert speakers on a podium - there were only participants. The schedule was created each morning based on the expertise already in the room. (Hey, we're all an expert on something!) And participants learned from each other in a comfortable and relaxed environment while getting to know awesome new people. (The people who met at early LA Barcamps went on to start SynnLabs and Mixergy and countless tech start-ups.)
Barcamp is back in Los Angeles after almost a two year hiatus. This is your chance to experience and participate in it. A new team has taken on the leadership and production of Barcamp. If you have ever been interested in attending barcamp, now is the time.
