(Parking is on the street.)

The format of this meetup is very casual (and round-table), so bring whatever Drupal-related projects you are currently working through, and (if you'd like) some food or beverage to share.

We'll roughly break the meetup up into two parts:

FIRST HOUR

We will discuss challenges that we are facing in our real projects, and help each other find solutions. Bring whatever (Drupal-related) questions or challenges you have! This covers a broad range from wireframing/UI challenges to difficulty getting a migration script to work to ... [insert your specific idea here].

SECOND HOUR

We are working together to build a Drupal 8 site, giving us the opportunity to learn from each other's working styles and test the boundaries of Drupal 8 without the restrictions of working on a client site. The project is going to focus on the challenges of a media-centric responsive site. It will morph as we come up with ideas.

We have an asana group for task management/idea sharing, and a github account for the code. If you weren't at the last meeting and would like to be part of the project, leave a comment here and someone will add you.

See you there!

My only regret

Is that we're not calling this Drupal Study Grupal.

I've been able to install D8 since yesterday, but I figure I'll wait until BADcamp is over to add it to the repo.

See you tomorrow evening!

I'm looking forward to our next meeting tomorrow evening, Monday, 11/18/13, 7pm, at Medium.

Repo set up

chellman's picture

Hey all,

I've just added today's snapshot of Drupal 8 to the repo. There's a folder called drupal with the code in it (duh), and a folder called starter-kit with a gzipped database dump and a settings.php. I gitignored the sites/default/settings.php file, but figured I'd put one in there to get you started if the installation b0rks on you (the standard profile didn't completely install for me), or you just want to get started perhaps a smidge faster.

So if you want get rolling without destroying Uzi's wifi, clone the repo, or pull the latest, and see you tonight!

Good meeting

Hi,

I enjoyed the meeting last night. I particularly like the format, where questions about 'any Drupal problems you may have encountered' are answered -- this will never lose its usefulness, & everyone trying new things will get it to change constantly.

Focus on Drupal 8 is a great way to get us all introduced to 'what's new' & to try new stuff.

Jeff

Accounts sent out

chellman's picture

I sent out account information to everyone who posted their info in the Google doc at the meetup, so if you expected to get an account and haven't received it yet, let me know.

Resetting your password doesn't work because emails don't go out (I don't know why that is), so if you can't get in, let me know.

Can I be also included?

I missed last Monday's session and would like to continue to be a part of the study group.

Come on out next month!

Come out to the next meetup. We've only just gotten started!

no meeting in December - next meeting January 20

rainbreaw's picture

The month of December got away from us, and we weren't able to get ourselves together for a Burbank study group tonight. We apologize, but will definitely pick up again on January 20, 2014!

On the January 20 meeting, we will:

  • Have those who are fully set up start working on the site we are building
  • Have a breakout group for those who aren't yet set up to get all the necessary tools and pieces on their system, including local development environment, drush, git, etc.
  • Have a breakout group for those who would like to learn the basics of drush and git

See you in the new year!

Thank you for the notice!

And thanks for all your work in pulling the Burbank group together. Have a good holiday season -- see you in January

Your version of Drupal is no longer supported??

fejn's picture

Hi All,

When I enabled the 'Forum' module (8.0-dev) on the Extend page, I got the rather mysterious message:
Your version of Drupal is no longer supported. Upgrading is strongly recommended! See the available updates page for more information and to install your missing updates.

My version of D8 is the latest one Joe put up on pizzandrupal -- anything I should be aware of here?

Thx, Jeff

D8 is obsolete every day!

chellman's picture

I think this is probably appearing because Drupal 8 is not a supported release yet. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Or maybe the update module sees that the version on the repo is not the most recent version of D8.

I'll see if I can update the codebase to the latest D8 tomorrow in preparation for the meetup.

Vsn?

My system thinks it is using 8.0-dev. It doesn't find any updates when I invoke it manually (maybe this is what the current procedure with D8 is...)
