Join us on Monday, March 17th @ 7pm, for a Drupal study group:

(Parking is on the street.)

Venue provided by ahimsauzi @ Medium Digital Studio.
Pizza provided by The Cherry Hill Company.

The format of this meetup is very casual (and round-table), so bring whatever Drupal-related projects you are currently working through, and (if you'd like) some food or beverage to share.

We'll roughly break the meetup up into two parts:

FIRST HOUR

We will discuss challenges that we are facing in our real projects, and help each other find solutions. Bring whatever (Drupal-related) questions or challenges you have! This covers a broad range from wire-framing/UI challenges to difficulty getting a migration script to work to ... [insert your specific idea here].

SECOND HOUR

We are working together to build a Drupal 8 site, giving us the opportunity to learn from each other's working styles and test the boundaries of Drupal 8 without the restrictions of working on a client site. The project is going to focus on the challenges of a media-centric responsive site. It will morph as we come up with ideas.

Anyone can join the project and study group at any time!

On March 17th, we will:

  • Have those who are fully set up with all the pieces of the project start working on the site we are building
  • Have a breakout group for those who aren't yet set up to get all the necessary tools and pieces on their system, including local development environment, drush, git, etc.
  • Have a breakout group for those who would like to learn the basics of drush and git

RECURRING MEETING

This meeting is scheduled for the third Monday of every month.

recap from last night

rainbreaw's picture

Great meeting last night! Even though we were stymied by the fact that Drupal 8 now needs PHP 5.4+ and Acquia/Pantheon are no longer able to support this project, we made great strides in figuring out our infrastructure.

We've now come full circle, and are going to host this project ourselves and use github / waffle.io for our repository and project management.

Uzi has a server that he is setting up. He and Ashok will work together this month to get the server going and our site running on it. Ashok will also set up a backup scheme. Once these things are in place, as well as a plan for how configuration will work, I will write up a document for us to follow regarding workflow. Since the document will be in our Github project, anyone can revise it as better methods become apparent.

If you weren't at the meeting last night, we need to amke sure you are added as a collaborator in our Github organization, pizzandrupal.

The project in Github:
https://github.com/pizzandrupal/pnd

On Waffle.io:
https://waffle.io/pizzandrupal/pnd

Ashok set up the repo using Lullabot Boilerplate, so you may want to read this to understand the directory structure:
https://github.com/Lullabot/drupal-boilerplate

We plan to have a breakout at next months meeting specifically on how to use git. If it is new for you, this will be quite valuable.

Drupal 8 on Acquia hosting

Good news, Matt from Acquia reached out this morning with info about running D8 on their platform:

We support 5.5 on Acquia Cloud and Acquia Enterprise Cloud today. However, free tier doesn't support 5.5 but in another week all of our platform will support D8.
