DrupalCamp LA is coming up on August 7-8 and I'm wondering if anyone here is interested in youth events during the conference. For example, if there's enough interest I can help organize a youth afterparty.
What kind of for youth, by youth things can we do at DrupalCamp LA? What has worked well at other conferences? I'd love to hear from you.

insurance concerns
If you have not checked with UC Irvine, I would think this would be an insurance liability for the department getting us the space. Please check with the venue.

Are you saying that minors
Are you saying that minors are not allowed to attend DrupalCamp LA? If so, this is the first I've heard of it.
Check out previous years sections: What not to bring
I think this is was adopted from Bar Camp - I just recall copying various sections - primarily developed from previous BarCamp-LA gatherings.

guess I should mention, I was just responding to the "first I've heard of it"
I'm definitely open to discussion... But I think Chris is right in terms of checking any venue restrictions first.

13 the magic number?
I think many web sites and venues require a minimum age to show due diligence in discouraging sexual predators. Whether or not this standard belongs in society and should be repealed is beyond the scope of this group me thinks.
But then I'm not a lawyer or a social activist so ignore me.
Maybe we could find a cub-scout pack or boys/girls club that wants to wander into "virtual arts 'n crafts".

For what it's worth, this
For what it's worth, I feel that it would have been better to talk about venue policies elsewhere, such as in the LA Drupal intranet, but now that it's here, hey let's talk about it.
I've asked John to help us better understand UCI's policies. Then we can talk about adjusting our own policies to comply so that we can officially offer youth events at DrupalCamp LA.
COPPA is something the Larks know a lot about, so we can easily apply the necessary code and techniques to drupalcampla.com and make it COPPA-compliant.
Wow, so I guess Dimitri would
Wow, so I guess Dimitri would not be allowed.
12yo Dmitri gave a
12yo Dmitri gave a presentation at our 2008 camp under the same policy. The policy essentially asks for people to come and participate. I think the intention is to try to create a learning and networking event - opposed to a party for geeks. We're not getting together for a BBQ. :)
I had no involvement in creating the policy, just was aware of it, and replied to Christefano who apparently wasn't. I have a four year old. This will be our fourth camp. The policy affects me, which is perhaps why I've been aware of it for so long. I believe the idea started in a smaller CAMP environment. DrupalCampLA is MUCH bigger than a typical camp, and it probably makes a lot of sense to revisit this.
But Chris brought up a valid point. We can change our policy all we want, but venue policy trumps ours.

What about the Drupalgangers?
What about instead of having activities on site, we provide a guide to local attractions for drupal spouses, relatives and children who may be along for the ride. A forum could provide a venue for planning day trips.
Would love to see a session
Would love to see a session on teaching kids to use Drupal. I even like to prepare for such session.
