Registration is now open for DrupalCamp LA 2010. Mark your calendars for Saturday & Sunday, August 7-8th, 2010. Attendance is free. The camp will be taking place in the same great venue from last year - UC Irvine in the city of Irvine, California. The campus has housing available if you wish to rent rooms to stay overnight.
If you registered last year then your account is already setup and you just need to login and edit your profile to mark what days you plan to attend.
Free to attend. Parking costs about $8-12 per day. Lunch is not provided but you can bring your own or buy a food pass from the cafeteria on campus (which people liked last year). Nighttime private camp party on Saturday 7PM-MIDNIGHT sponsored by MediaTemple.

Read moreHow to Use Theme Functions to Take Over an Entire Page
My last question at July's meetup asked how to mimic the book export or print module functionality to set aside the entire Drupal page render in favor of your own theme function.
The Development mailing list got me an answer within two hours, courtesy of Matt Chapman.
In your menu callback function, do not return theme(). Instead, print theme().

What's Drupal After Dark?
Drupal After Dark meetups have traditionally been social occasions where alcohol is usually involved. In the past we've met at places including the Good Hurt on Venice Blvd. and Masa on W. Sunset Blvd. and good times have been had by all. For this event, however, no outside food and beverage is permitted. Attendees are expected to abide by both the Outdoor Cinema Food Fest policies and the laws of the State of California.

The DrupalCon North American Regional Organizing Group is looking for input from us, the Drupal community, to help pick the location for DrupalCon North America being scheduled for 2012 (and beyond). They have put together a brief “straw poll” intended to gauge community interest about various cities that have been suggested as potential good locations by our event management company. Vote however you wish, but I'd like to point out that the list does already have a few West coast cities, like Las Vegas, and many of us wouldn't mind to see DrupalCon nearby again.

Looking to put together a show at a local club of all artists/musicians/bands who host their sites in Drupal. Call it DrupalCore Fest, or DrupalRox or something like that. I do not have a date, but have a potential space. Sometime in the fall, probably.
Or maybe you are a developer/designer who has built a site for a musician who could talk them into doing an event. Let me know! :)
My thought is to do this as part fund-raiser for the Drupal Association.
Reply if you are interested and the name of your project and site.
Read moreSanta Barbara Newbie Group
We want to form a loose group of Drupal users and beginners in Santa Barbara, and have irregular regular meetings. Perhaps once very two weeks about, and in the evenings or on a Saturday.
The purpose is to help each other learn Drupal and share experiences with each other. The group at UCSB is great but a little too advanced for our needs. We have websites we need to create, for fun, for profit, and other reasons, and believe we can learn better and faster in a group environment.

To meet other Drupal beginners, Newbies, and more experienced Drupalistas. The idea is to form a group which will continue to meet, helping each other actually get a website going and go live with it. Personally, I wish to find others locally whom I can call on to help me with an issue when I can't find the answer in the books or online, or plain don't "get it"; I feel I have also something to contribute and can help those who are very new to Drupal.

We are having a Drupal meeting tomorrow for the SB Drupalistas at 6:30 pm at Pia's house. If you don't have the address, please email me (Pia@piasworld.com) for it. My house is downtown SB.
Newbies to experienced Drupal users are welcome. We want you to bring an issue, a problem or a great tip and we will go through it, time permitting. Also, if you would like help with installing Drupal locally, or on a live server we will try and assist you, again time permitting.
Please join us! Drupal is fun and exciting.

Read moreWho's interested in a "Design for Drupal" conference in Los Angeles in February, 2011?
As one of DrupalCamp LA's lead organizers, my sense is that DrupalCamp LA has moved out of the realm of what a camp is and into the realm of large summits and conferences. I talked a little bit about this in a recent LA DrupalCast episode, and while I definitely thought DrupalCamp LA 2010 was a lot of fun and a moderately successful event, I think DrupalCamp LA occupies a strange place in the spectrum of camps, summits and cons.
If you haven't been to camps other than DrupalCamp LA or if you're wondering what this "Design for Drupal" stuff is, please bear with me and read the entire post and my comments below.
