This is the group for people who want to discuss Drupal's social networking tools. These tools include modules like Buddylist, Organic Groups, Invite, FOAF, Private message, and so forth. Sites that currently do successful social networking are:
The goal of this group is to foster communication between the developers of Drupal's social networking modules, discuss roadmaps, and collect community input.
One million or more users may create problem with buddylist.
Hi,
I have a question about scalability issue of buddylist. Suppose I have a site with 1 million or more users and admin(or any user) have near about 200000 buddies or more. My question is can buddylist module handle the access of buddylist of admin specially when buddylist calls the function buddylist_get_buddies and execute a query :
$sql = 'SELECT b.buddy, u.name, u.mail, u.uid FROM {buddylist} b
INNER JOIN {users} u ON b.buddy = u.uid
WHERE b.uid = %d';
Best tools for keeping the task of moderation manageable...
I'm building a social network, and I'm wondering how best to minimize the amount of effort I need to put into moderation, while keeping the site from being taken over by trolls and spammers. I'm looking at "troll", "ignore user", and Mollom. I'd love to hear what combinations have proven successful, and any other techniques you'd recommend. I'm planning to start with an invitation-only beta, where people pass invitations on to their friends, and hopefully that will lead to a good core group of legitimate users.
Thanks for any insight,
Ln

I'm trying to build a Drupal site that allows users to vote on what they think basketball players are the best at. So for example I'll have an individual profile for each basketball player, and people will be able to click multiple buttons on each profile, if they think a player is the best shooter, or best defender, or best dunker, you get the idea. Those results will get added up and output, then I'll sort on who's the best at what.
I thought I could do this using:
Advanced Profile Kit(adding the categories for best)
One of the voting modules(I've tried Fivestar and Plus1)

Aimed at people wanting to learn from scratch how to build and manage a complex website in Drupal, this is a 7-day stay in the south of France, in the Roman town of Uzes on the Provence border, including a 5-day intensive Drupal course. The event runs Sunday to Sunday.
Day 1 (Sunday) is orientation and sight-seeing, days 2-6 (Monday to Friday) are taught from 9:30am to 5:30pm, then the evenings are yours and Day 7 (Saturday) is a final day of sight-seeing/relaxing before heading home on Sunday.

What do you think about these new Friendlists views?
Hi everybody, this discussion is geared to the current (future) users of friendlist. As I created the initial views for friendlist, I started out with the mindset to create generic views, which users can customize further. However it ended up being more confusing and messy. I would like to take a different approach and create views that work better out of the box for the default relationships shipped with friendlist, namely, friend and fan.

The Eclipse foundation is relaunching their Eclipse PlugIn Central (EPIC) plugin repository site in Drupal. Help them make it rock by analyzing their requirements document and giving them the best tips possible. A large number of Drupal developers use Eclipse as their IDE and we owe them a debt of gratitude. Help make EPIC rock!

Hello all
We are researching social networks and online communities here at the Tampere University of Technology in Finland. In addition to developing them, we need also to study the behavior of the users in these networks. I guess the best term is social network analysis.

Maintainers of activity type modules, or other interested parties,
If you had to rewrite your module from the ground up, or architect the ultimate end-all be-all module for recording and displaying user activity on your site, how would you go about it now, knowing what you know?
From maintaining the Activity module, I think I've come up with some basic needs for this kind of feature, so let's discuss how to best go about implementing the functionality of the ultimate solution.

I think pretty much anyone looking for this sort of feature for their site comes from knowing how it is implemented on facebook and are looking for something very similar. If that is the case, there are a few main things that we're looking for it to do, how it should look and act from a user's standpoint. But what are your expectations?

Best gallery for this
Hello all,
I'm a new member here and I'm new with Drupal. I like what I see so far :)
Anyways I was wondering...is there a good gallery that can help us here? I mean for instance to do a hi5 like script the gallery must be linked to the user profile, modules, etc. I know how to install one gallery but it does not have too much with the profile (either standard one or the content profile module one). And to edit the show picture page template.
private contents
I try to create a small social network with the possibility that only those who make part of your list can see the contents of the other, so as to understand the FB friends list that does not support the dashboard or profile if you do not become friends.
how can I do to get this feature with drupal?
thanks to all

We're launching a social networking portal, and planning on setting up a facebook-like feature with user statuses and activity updates. For user relations we're planning on using FriendList module. (From what I understand User Relationships has a bulky API, and Flag Friend has bugs, like inability to remove friends, that aren't fixed yet).
So far here's my understanding of the options:
