Eclipse PHP + Drupal

I just finished reading Drupal's documentation on Configuring Eclipse, but the text seems slightly outdated. Some key modules for Drupal support seem not available and not to be maintained anymore. Since Eclipse PHP is arguably the most popular Open Source IDE out there, I would like to know if someone could help me with these:

Eclipse formatter for Drupal Code Quality

Attached you will find a code formatter for Eclipse Luna 4.4, compatible with the Drupal coding standards.

Install

You can import this formatter by uncompressing the XML file, and going to
Preferences -> PHP -> Code style -> Formatters -> Import

Usage

Say you are editing a Drupal .module. You can now right-click, Source->Format (Ctrl-Alt-F) and Eclipse will format your source code automatically to comply with Drupal Code Quality checks.

Also, you will find a code formatter for Eclipse PDT 3.8 (or Zend Studio 6.3).

Time to upgrade: Eclipse PDT 2.1 based on Galileo is out

Eclipse PDT 2.1 is based on Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo release). That release also includes Mylyn, a tool that helps you organize the to do list in conjunction with the bug reports in Trac and other bug tracking tools. I've never tried it before, but it sounds very interesting.

New all-in-one packages now include one for 64bit Linux and one for Mac OS X Cocoa.

With a new version comes also the question of upgrading. This post intends to share one potential way to do the upgrade.

If you're using eclipse for drupal development, fell free to post your wishes and feature requests.
Thanks

P.S.: if such eclipse plugin already exists, let me know.

Virtualbox image - plug & play Drupal Development and debugging using FOSS

Here's a prebuilt virtualbox environment for development. Works on any platform. I think this is a great way to introduce people to developing Drupal with FOSS tools. if nothing else it provides a debugging environment plug-and-play.

What is it?

its a Virtualbox VDI image (which has a smaller footprint than VMware) using Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.

The the image of course (like VMware) works on any platform, Windows, Mac, *nix. I think anything with a JAVA JRE stack.

The setup includes:

  • LAMP - using xampp - for a cleaner / easier interface for noobs, and includes phpmyadmin
