Welcome to the Southern Colorado User Group (SCUG). We work with other Drupal users and developers throughout southern Colorado to
- promote Drupal in southern Colorado and the Colorado Springs area
- educate local Drupal users in front-end and back-end design and development
- provide a common setting for general discussion and conferences regarding Drupal
June 2012 Southern Colorado Drupal User Group Meeting
Last month. In May, we did our first formal Learn Sprint. Within the group, we climbed 6 rungs on the Drupal Ladder. After general Q&A arising from the Learn Sprint, Matt Kleve demo-ed some interesting git branching issues, some advanced Drush commands and a simplified commerce module in development.
June's meeting. Change of plans. Adrian Rollett will not be in town for this meeting, so Adrian will give his presentation in August.

With DrupalCon going down in Denver this year, there seems to be (understandably) little interest in organizing DrupalCamp Colorado for 2012. The idea was tossed around for actual camping, which IMO would be a nice change after all the DrupalCon action. Note: If someone still wants to organize a Drupal Camp, don't let this stop you.
The Goal: To get some nature, relax and hang out with fellow Drupalers in a low stress, unplugged environment.

Open invitation to our neighboring states.
We will be having our second annual Drupal Camp Utah on June 15th this year. Attendees will get breakfast, lunch and a t-shirt... until all three of those run out.
Stop by the website and let us know if you are thinking about joining us: http://drupalutah.org

In April's meeting, we tried something new; we worked in small groups to find and fix bugs in Drupal core and contributed modules. We found that we should have had a) devel versions of Drupal 6, 7 and perhaps 8 on our laptops and b) we should have pre-selected novice issues that offer good learning experiences for all. See:

Hey guys, thinking of starting this back up! What do you think?
Let's go out, have a few beers (or beverage of your choice) and talk Drupal. No agenda, just a bunch of geeks hanging out.
Southside Johnny's seemed to be working well so I'll be there at 6:30 and try to get a booth which I'm sure we can fill and hopefully overflow! Come whenever you want, stay as long as you want.

April 2012 Drupal User Group Meeting
Both of agenda items for our April meeting are inspired by DrupalCon Denver. Something for everyone: folks new to Drupal all the way to Drupal developers (and developer wannabees).
The best of DrupalCon Denver. Although all of the videos for the sessions are online at the DrupalCon Denver website, who has time - or discipline - to view them? We will share our best DrupalCon sessions to give each other a thumbnail overview on what we learned. Also, none of the BoF's were recorded, so bring your favorite BoF's and what you learned.

Agenda. For our March meeting:
- DrupalCon Denver logistics. Any ride sharing, get-togethers not to miss, BoF's (Birds of a Feather) sessions to keep in mind, Q&A and other insider information.
February 2012 Drupal Meetup
February's meeting: Rick Nashleanas, Bryan Jones and James Swainston will show how they implemented LDAP and GIS calls from the Acquia server to provide customized employee and citizen dashboards for the County of Pueblo. They will highlight the technical challenges and demo how citizens and employees are identified and how each group can retrieve customized information on their dashboards.

In December, we shared information about the sessions selected for Drupalcon Denver, must-have and favorite modules, hosting alternatives and more. Of special note, a number of us learned about the Drupal Entity Cache module - http://drupal.org/project/entitycache - for Drupal 7. Thanks, Adrian!
Agenda. January's meeting will packed with great technical information.
We will start out with a startup topic from the folks attending the meeting. Even if you're brand new to Drupal, we'll be able to get you up and running quickly.

Normally by this time we'd have a venue secured and be working on various elements of Drupalcamp Colorado 2012.
But...of course there's Drupalcon Denver that a lot of folks are busily working on.
So, I'd like to open discussion:
- Should we try to hold a Drupalcamp in 2012? If so, should we try to do an event similar to what we have done in previous years?

Last month. In September, John Ferris covered the lesser known CSS selectors that can be used today. These selectors allow you to target elements without adding unnecessary Classes and ID's to elements. This helps keep your markup clean and gives you more control directly from your style sheet.

OK, school is back in session (next week), and so are the local Drupal meetings!
I'm mostly just looking to gauge interest at this point - location and topics of discussion are TBD. So please leave a comment - even a yes/no/maybe would be great - and of course, chime in with topic suggestions!
Hope you all enjoyed the summer - it sure went fast!

July Southern Colorado Drupal Users Group
In the wake of Drupalcamp Colorado, we can now think about our next SCUG meeting.
Mark your calendars. The meeting will be July 5th at the East Library - http://library.ppld.org/east-library - in Colorado Springs: http://bit.ly/iq44ij from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.
At our last meeting, several folks had some great projects and features that they had been working on. If you'd like to share those, that would be great. We have developed a mobile version of our web site, www.monarchdigital.com, and we could demo that if there is interest.

Last month. I don't think we've ever had more content than what was presented at our May meeting:
- We had a lively discussion about themes for the 2012 Drupalcon Denver with a great deal of excitement about a theme involving mobile devices.
- John McCormick (neardark) demonstrated tips and tricks for getting into chatrooms, especially #drupal-colorado.
- John Ferris (pixelwhip) did a dry run of his proposed Drupalcamp Colorado presentation on the 10 commandments of Photoshop markups.
- Matt Kleve (vordude) demonstrated some great functionality using the feeds module.
