May 2010 Southern Colorado Drupal Users Group
See http://groups.drupal.org/node/64503 for our new date and time for this month!
In April... We always like to feature topics and presentations for both designers and developers. Bryan Jones of Monarch walked us through his use of the ninesixty subtheme. Matt Kleve then made all of the coders happy by identifying a bug in Drupal 7, applying and testing the fix and then submitting the patch. Matt plans to report back if or when the patch is accepted.

DrupalCamp Colorado will be Saturday, June 26th and Sunday, June 27th this year in Denver, CO on the Auraria Higher Education Center campus in downtown Denver.
DrupalCamp Colorado is a great resource to learn more about Drupal and engage and collaborate with others. The event has grown each year and we expect no different this time.
We'll be sending out updates on the event via several channels, so be sure to stay tuned for the launch of the website and more details.

In March... We had a great turnout with folks ranging from print designers and folks who couldn't spell DruPAL to experienced coders and designers.
After doing some show and tell about some of our recent Drupal work, some of the more experienced Drupal folks explored the group's favorite Drupal modules. In addition, we explored some of the favorites that will be built in to Drupal 7.

Quick survey question: does everyone really do all 14 steps when upgrading? What do most people skip, if any?
It would seem that 14 steps are a bit much for such a small upgrade. I have been using other products like mediawiki, wordpress, lussumoVanilla and none have such a complex upgrade process, most you just backup the database and replace the core files.
I have over 15 (individual) Drupal sites and upgrading would be an issue over the lifespan of 15 sites. Sample site at http://www.16x20.com

March 2010 Southern Colorado Drupal Meeting
As we had a number of folks new to Drupal in our February meeting, everyone who had Drupal experience contributed to giving an overview of Drupal. Is it a CMS or a development platform? How is Drupal organized between core, modules, the theme layer, custom modules, etc? An overview of national, regional and local Drupal sites and projects.
As always, this discussion served to introduce one another, our specialties and ways we could promote everyone's businesses!

February SCUG Meeting
During the first hour of our January meeting, we introduced ourselves and shared experiences with hosting Drupal sites, solved (or attempted to solve) Drupal challenges (not problems), shared information about a myriad of CMS's, recounted experiences at previous DrupalCamp Colorado's and Drupalcons and much more. We continued to explore the concept of an open workshop, "Introduction to Content Management Systems", for local college computer science and design students and professors.

Many thanks to Mike Potter, who gave a great overview of Views and CCK for the group in the December meeting.
In January, we had 2 or 3 people volunteer to demonstrate their new Drupal sites and describe their development process. If you volunteered for one of these presentations, please tell us a little about the site you'll be featuring here. As always, questions and answers rule the day and we all end up learning something new.

It was a great time and great conversations.
Next meetup we're planning on somewhere in Grand Junction, hopefully we can find a place with a projector and have a presentation. A D7 update by Randy Fay was mentioned, but any other ideas or topic people would like to hear about we should all discuss.
Also, please put your photo with your user so we can all put faces with names! :D
I've uploaded some photos from the meetup to Flickr and added them to the Drupal Flickr group - check 'em out!

We had a great turnout and great discussions at our November meeting. Many thanks to Virginia Franklyn for demonstrating the upcoming Pikes Peak Library Drupal site. We talked about subjects ranging from usability testing to the merits of a Zen subtheme.

Our October meeting covered topics from site maps produced by the XMLSitemap module to a tutorial on the Ad (Advertisement) module to exploring the Context module to demos of some project management tools being used in Drupal projects.
For our November 5th meeting, we will have several demonstrations. One of our members is a sysadmin and he is putting up his first Drupal site for one of his customers. A very different perspective compared to approaching Drupal from a web developer or designer point of view.

After leaving our September meeting, several folks were going off to try projects from installing Drupal for the first time to implementing new modules.
By popular demand, our October 1 meeting will be "Things I Didn't Expect When I...". Attendees will give little mini-presentations of their projects and report back on things they learned, things that surprised them, and things they would do differently. If you think of it, post a comment here to say that you have a project that could fall under the category of "Things I Didn't Expect When I...".

It's that time again, folks. Drupal Southern Colorado Users Group (SCUG) will host its monthly meetup at East Library this Thursday September 3, from 6:30 - 9 p.m.
This meeting will cover two broad topics:
- We will continue our discussions surrounding "Fix My Site", appropriate for people brand new to Drupal along with people who have very specific problems to be fixed.
Southern Colorado Drupal meeting
If you missed our August meeting, our "Fix Our Site" session was very helpful for folks new to Drupal and to folks who had very specific Drupal questions. In the meeting, we:
- Reviewed our favorites from DrupalCamp Colorado
- Introduced CMS's, open source and Drupal
- Tackled real problems people were having with their sites
- Awarded our raffle prizes of the book "Learning Drupal" and the Drupal Cheat Sheet T-shirt.
Of course, we had plenty of time to get to know one another.

As DrupalCamp Colorado will be on June 27 and 28, we will not have our regular Southern Colorado Drupal Users Group meeting in July.
Our August meeting is entitled "Fix my Web Site". Bring your Drupal web site problems and challenges and we'll share our experiences to address your current Drupal challenges.
