Getting ready for 8

I found a post today called Drupal 8 Ready: What's new for Site Builders?
and it's making me want Drupal 8!

Who can be scared away with all of the projected great new features?

The two must reads are: http://previousnext.com.au/blog/drupal-8-ready-whats-new-site-builders and http://previousnext.com.au/blog/drupal-8-ready-whats-new-developers

On the other hand I'm also following quicksketch and BackDrop!

Are you brave or cautious?!

Port SMS Framework to Drupal 8

The last time a major drupal version was released, Drupal 7, the SMS Framework was way behind in releasing a 7.x version. This led to the inability of lots of users to switch quickly to gain the benefits of the new drupal release.
I would like us to put some effort into having a 8.x version of SMS Framework ready at the time of D8 release. I'm starting this discussion because I have used SMS Frameworks on a couple of sites and I am also quite excited by the prospects of D8 and the features it brings along with it.

Join us for a live Drupal 8 question & answer session on April 11th 10am EDT !

I just ran across this article on groups.drupal.org. But I have not seen it publicized on the Florida group, so I though I would share it with you. (Granted it as posted on April 3, 2013 - so maybe this is old news.)

The organizers of this Google Hangout broadcast are Dries Buytaert and Shannon Vettes.

Here is the original article.

Core: "Drupal 8 requires PHP 5.3.10 starting March 15"

Something to take note of for Red Hat administrators. The currently supported version of PHP in Red Hat will not be supported by Drupal 8. I think RHEL 7 and Drupal 8 are now in a race to see which comes out first.
