gbyte.co - company/blog/portfolio website ported to Drupal 8
gbyte.co has been ported to Drupal 8!
Upgrade path
Content types were created manually, after that most of the migration happened with custom scripts including all nodes, users and files.
The website was created between beta 13 and 15. Though beta-to-beta upgradability was first announced when beta 15 came out, in fact I had no serious issues upgrading core modules from beta 13 to 15. Upgrading contrib modules like colorbox, libraries, honeypot took code changes and patches.
Custom contributed module: Simple XML Sitemap

I have built my own small company site (working as freelancer) on Drupal 8: http://www.stefan-korn.de. (Sorry only in German language for the moment)
I started with Beta 3 and had a real hard time to get it updated. Finally I have managed to bring it to Beta 11. But needed to more or less recreate the site. I know that it is clear there is no supported upgrade path between beta versions, but really did not think it would be that hard ...

Read moreWhat about having a core admin module that allows admins to change text-format for multiple nodes?
In the earlier versions of Drupal many administrators and or Content managers have been stuck with either running queries on the database manually or going through by hand to change the text format for multiple nodes. I have seen many colleagues inquire about this issue. An example would be to import feed items through the feeds module while forgetting to set the text format for the target node. After these items are imported to Filtered-html, images may not show in teasers, etc. Therefore in order to allow these items to become visiible, multiple changes in these nodes are required.

After weeks of back and forth the Drupal 8 core's composer.json file has now been moved to the core directory to facilitate fetching only the contents of the core directory via Composer.
The relevant issue is https://www.drupal.org/node/1975220. A big shoutout to everyone who moved that issue forward, most notably dawidwbaratt, daffie, bojanz and alexpott.

Happy New Year all!
Not sure if anyone monitors this site, and the date fluctuates often, but Drupal 8 should be released in about a year: https://drupalreleasedate.com/
I've noticed the API documentation for D8 has come around quite a bit lately, so I thought the best way to learn D8/Symphony would be to jump in head-first and write a module or update an existing one.
I know D8 core needs help, but I think I'd like to see an entire project go end-to-end.
Anyone interested in co-authoring a D8 module, and if so, any thoughts on what to tackle?
Thanks and regards,
