Last Call to Get Food at BU Drupal Camp

If you are interested in attending BU Drupal BootCamp on this Friday, May 2nd, 2008 and would like lunch to be provided (free), we need you to sign up by 4:00 pm CST at http://slane.bradley.edu/drupalbootcamp/. If you have particular dietary needs, please contact Steven Merrill or myself so that we can make sure there is something for you to eat.

This call is just for people who would like lunch provided. After this afternoon you can still sign up and attend the event -- we just can't guarantee there will be any food for you -- but campustown is literally just across the street and has a number of different (cheap) food options.

Thanks!

Brian

DrupalBootCamp UIUC Feedback

I thought I'd create this thread as a place to put feedback about DrupalBootCamp UIUC and see what that will mean for our May BU DrupalBootCamp.

This first one comes from one of our IT staff that visited the morning sessions:

---
I thought the UIUC Drupal event was very informative. I liked that each speaker had a short stint on their topic, and things moved along at a good pace. Starting off with your presentation provided a nice segue into the rest of the morning topics.

Drupal Training Opportunities

Spring has sprung! The local Drupal community is growing and developing quite a network of learning and networking opportunities. Here are some of the upcoming gigs.

  • This group (of course): The Twin Cities Drupal Users Group Meeting. These meetings are free and happen monthly. No level of expertise is expected or required. Usually a topic of interest is discussed along with open forum for questions and networking. Always some yummy pizza following the topic discussion. Every 4th Wednesday evening starting at 7 PM. More info can be found here - be sure you are signed up to receive emails through the "my membership" link in the right column. Hope to see you soon!
  • Lullabot's Drupal Theming and jQuery and API and Module Development classes for the more advanced Drupal developers. For more information, see their post below.
  • Drupal Basic Training: Build a Drupal Website. For those of you how are just starting Drupal, Advantage Labs, Inc. is offering a 4-week class/workshop/seminar series on how to build websites using Drupal. We've been hearing from many folks - from the users group meetings to the Drupal Day at the Science Museum attendees - that a class like this would be helpful. It starts April 14th - a week from Monday. We expect to follow the series with more topic-based workshops (one-time) and more advanced classes.

We are also excited by Open Circuit. Science Museum of MN, Sunday's Energy, Gorton Studios, Steve Hanson (TC Drupal online group founder), TCDrupal Users Group and others have all been working toward more extended collaboration on Drupal learning opportunities. Stay tuned for more info to learn about Drupal and get involved locally.

Drupal training syllabus

Open source has proven to produce high quality in various fields. Loyal to the principals of open source, I am sharing Linnovate's Drupal training curriculum, in order to share it with other Drupal shops who consider train people to Drupal, and of course - get some feedback, and improve the program.
The idea is not to create a unified training syllabus, but rather propose a structure of such a course. Drupal training centers may then modify the training program, to fit their needs.
We might want to publish the syllabus under GPL, and make it officially open source :-)

At Linnovate, we develop 3 training programs:
- Drupal administration - get to know all you need in order to install and administer a Drupal website, without writing code.
- Drupal Theming - From PSD to a Drupal Theme (draft)
- Drupal Development - Learn how to write modules and expand Drupal (Updated draft)

DrupalCamp CentralIL in May?

Hey Drupalers,

I was talking with some of Bradley's IT higher-ups as part of a portal project that my students are helping skin. Once mentioned that our university webmaster was looking at Drupal, and I immediately began to espouse the benefits of Drupal. (Several of the Slane College sites use Drupal, with several more on the way.)

I mentioned that I'd be willing to help them plan such an implementation, and then someone asked if I could show a few people around Drupal, and maybe do a little training.

In the spirit of the Drupal community, I asked if Bradley could instead sponsor a DrupalCamp. My contacts in IT seemed very receptive to the idea, and said that we could get some labs and some food. We also have a few local multimedia shops who might be able to sponsor anything else that was needed. Bradley has a wireless campus, A/V equipment, and nice labs.

Lullabot Training in Melbourne, Australia

I just heard on the lullabot podcast #53 that lullabot is going to Melbourne to run training sessions in April 2008.

With the Drupal Mini Conf after Linux Conference Australia, and Lonely Planet launching their drupal development in Melbourne, it seems like Melbourne is shaping up to be the “Drupal Capital” of the Southern hemisphere.
