triDUG

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Only local images are allowed. Our mission is to connect Drupal users in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, North Carolina and surrounding areas. We get together monthly for presentations, site demonstrations, and hack nights. Our goal is to help new Drupal users get up to speed, foster the development of existing Drupal designers and Developers, and contribute to the larger Drupal community. The Research Triangle has a big concentration of technical folks, universities, and start-ups and we want to expose as many people as possible to Drupal and all that it offers.

Propose a meeting topic here.

SSO for Drupal and WordPress?

We have a client interested in keeping a WordPress site (possibly two) separate from their Drupal installation for the moment. However, they would like to be able to have single sign-on capabilities between the two. Drupal would be the "master" in this case. I've looked into this a bit, and there are certainly places to hook into or override WP's authentication methods, but I'm wondering if this is the way to go vs. using something like OpenID instead.

Anybody have experience with either (or something similar) and/or thoughts on pros and cons?

Thanks for your help!

-Brant

Two bank accounts in Ubercart payment method

Hi, everyone,

Recently I need to deal with a small Ubercart EC case in which I need to use bank transfer as an off-line payment in shopping process.
Not big deal. I installed the Bank Transfer module (http://drupal.org/project/uc_bank_transfer) to implement this function.

My client asked me to add another bank account as an alternative payment method that the customers can choose it in checkout page. However, Bank Transfer module, as you may know, can only input one bank account as transfer information.

Google Hangout for TriDUG?

Just an idle suggestion: any value in using the Google Hangout feature for a meeting format for TriDUG? While not as rich and beneficial as a full face-to-face meeting, I know there's a few members, where time or distance constrain our ability to participate as we'd like.

I don't see it as a replacement, but rather as another option.

SEO best practices?

I am curious how others are approaching this issue and opinions. I have been putting Google Analytics, Nodewords, XML sitemap on all my sites. Recently I have started building my themes with Fusion which suggests these modules as well Page Title, Pathauto, and Global Redirect. I have SEO checklist on my dev site to see what it suggests. There are a number of other modules it suggests as well as the ones listed above. There are also a number of other Drupal SEO modules. Are there any those that are favorites of the group? What are some tactics, modules, or other insights?

Two great presentations and a logo!

I just wanted to send a (somewhat) formal thank you to our two presentors from last night's meet-up.

Matt Kennedy from Four Clouds gave a great introduction Drupal Views.

Andrea Ross from UNC, FPG Child Development Inst. wowed us with an introduction to Drupal Theming.

Both of these topics are very complicated and they made them look easy to do. We are very fortunate to have them both participate in TriDUG. We had a great turnout last night and I know that I would like to learn more about each of these topics at future meet-ups.

Creating Linked Data from a Large Community site

Hello,
I was wanting to produce RDF files for each member of a large online community of writers. It is using Drupal 7, so it has RDFa and many vocabularies "out of the box." I might want to add doac (description of a career), vcard RDF vocab, and perhaps bio.
I don't know if it is possible to go in now and create a file structure for holding data files that relate to each person. For example, starting with FOAF, I'd want to have a folders structure such as:
[username]/foaf.rdf
or better yet:
[user's real name/foaf.rdf

Implementing a content type programmatically in D7, hook_form() vs Fields API

Here's one for the group: what's the Right Way to implement a content type via a custom module? BITD it was hook_form() or maybe rolling a feature module. Now with the new Fields API there is an entirely new approach to this available.

I've tinkered with both but I haven't formed any solid opinions either way and I also haven't come across anything on the web detailing the pros and cons of each approach. I'd love to hear some of the other module developers in the group sound off on this.
