Only about 1.5% of the people involved in open source are women, leaving us terribly underrepresented. In the Drupal world, we're up to a whopping 7% 10% 17%, which only gets us to awfully unrepresented. ;) This group is for anyone (male, female, or otherwise) who believes that we can do better and wants to help.
So if you:
- are a woman who needs some help/guidance in order to get (more) involved with Drupal and the Drupal community
- are a woman who wants to network and get to know other women involved in Drupal
- are anyone who has ideas on things we can do to help encourage women to participate in Drupal
...then this is the group for you. :)
Sticker : We can do it
I'm not used to post on groups I hope I did everything ok :)
We created a sticker to encourage girls to work with Drupal and maybe you'll be interested by it , I mean I hope so :)
If you want some we will be at Chicago and will distribute it.
So, see you....

We often have a Drupalchix Birds of a Feather at Drupalcon. Anyone want to do this again this year? Anyone interested in helping out?
Last Year
Last year, there were 100 people in the BoF. We also met for lunch on the first day. And also for a Happy Hour (which was just meeting in one of the Drupal parties.)
In our BOF session we said our names, and got a sense of roles and histories of attendees. We talked about some challenges that some attendees had in their professional lives as technologists.

On being a woman in tech slowly promoted out of tech
This has been on my mind lately, and I thought it'd make a nice discussion topic for this group.
When I first came to the Drupal community back in 2005, I was just out of school, and a full-on web developer geek. My days consisted of PHP, SQL, (X)HTML, CSS, and JS, plus a smattering of other languages like C# and Java. I wrote modules and themes. I wrote technical documentation. I wrote core patches.

Looking through the photos from DrupalDevDays in Brussels http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/drupaldevdays from this past weekend, I noticed something... there were hardly any Drupalchix there! I think I spotted a total of 3 or 4 (of course there could have been more not in the photos) among the sea of guys. I think there was somewhere in the vicinity of 600 people there over the weekend, so this really surprised me!

I've been a PC for a long time. Now I want to try Mac, but I want to start cheap. If you want to upgrade, or you have an extra Mac sitting around, please contact me. It must be an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.4 or later. I'm hoping to spend less than $500. Is that enough to buy a usable laptop??

Hey all-
A while back there was some discussion about poor selection of tshirt cuts, sizes, fabrics, etc. Now that we're all ramping up for DrupalCon Chicago, I was wondering if anyone had a particular vendor and style that they've observed to work well?
Does anyone know of the perfect tee -- properly fitted but not clingy, soft but not see-through, a range of sizes to fit us all, and doesn't cost a fortune?

Hey all -
I was remarking at our Vancouver D7 Release Party, how fantastic it was that we had so many women there, I was guessing about a third of the attendees (which I think was more than we usually get at our meetups).
Just made me curious as to how the other local user groups were doing, as far as getting more women into the Drupal community, and supporting them, etc.

Anyone interested in a study group of sorts?
Recently Katy of SeascapeWebdesign.com, katy5289 on d.o, posted a question about learning how to write modules, http://groups.drupal.org/node/112609. I too want to learn more about writing modules, and php, and jquery, and and and... It is so vital to keep skills up. It seems my skill set was sufficient about 4 months ago, and now I need to step it up some.

Hi, my name is Katy. I'm a freelance Drupal Developer living in Vancouver, Canada. I'm looking for 10-20 hours per week subcontract work to supplement my freelance projects. My background is in hand-coding HTML/CSS websites and in web design. My specialty is front end development - theming and site building, cck and advanced views. However, I am finding that jobs for front-end Drupal development are few and far between. Have other Drupal themers found this to be true?
