Women in Drupal (Formerly DrupalChix)

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

We are active! Connect with us on the following channels to chat with other members and learn about our virtual meetups:

Only about 1.5% of the people involved in open source are women, leaving us terribly underrepresented. In the Drupal world, we're up to a whopping 7% 10% 17%, which only gets us to awfully unrepresented. ;) This group is for anyone (male, female, or otherwise) who believes that we can do better and wants to help.

So if you:

  • are a woman who needs some help/guidance in order to get (more) involved with Drupal and the Drupal community
  • are a woman who wants to network and get to know other women involved in Drupal
  • are anyone who has ideas on things we can do to help encourage women to participate in Drupal

...then this is the group for you. :)

Getting together post-conference

I had a great time at the meetup today. Anyone care to meet up at some point post-conference at a pub or something? I'd love to chat more as I feel like we really only touched on one topic this afternoon. I'm staying in Central London, but I am flexible depending on interest level and where everyone else is going..

Thanks!
Katie

DrupalChix of Colorado First Monthly Meetup

Start:
2011-07-21 18:30 - 20:30 America/Denver
Event type:
User group meeting

Hello Colorado Area Drupalchix --

This will be the first of (hopefully) monthly Colorado DBUG DrupalChix Group Meetups, which will take place on the third Thursday of each month.

Would like to keep this first meeting pretty low-key. Let's get to know each other, and decide the format of future meetings.

Since, gals showing interest so far seem to be half-and-half Boulder and Denver, we are looking to find locations that are accessible to all. Probably alternating each month.

Location:

Creative Density Coworking
1719 Emerson St.
Denver, CO

Starting a DBUG DrupalChix Group

Calling all DrupalChix in Colorado.

After the HUGE success of our DrupalCamp Colorado last weekend, and the upcoming Drupalcon Denver in 2012, we wanted to see how we could get more of you amazing Drupalchix involved in the Colorado Drupal community.

I know getting involved can seem really overwhelming at first, and some gals may be wanting to make it to the DBUG meetings, but really would feel comfortable if they knew someone.

phpwomen.org

I stumbled across this site: http://www.phpwomen.org - they have a listing of open source projects and how to get involved with them. And drupal is not listed! http://www.phpwomen.org/wordpress/os-project-opportunities

Should I ask them to list us and if so does anybody have ideas for starting points like IRC etc?

:)

Design and theming: together or separate?

Hello chix,

I hope you don't mind if I post this here. I thought it would be a safe and friendly place to discuss something that's been on my mind lately.

I have a background in both design and front-end development. I've been doing this for about 13 years, and got into drupal gradually over the past 4 years or so. I love being able to combine the creative and technical sides of web design.

A teeny-tiny itsy-bitsy thing (good-natured remarks that feel negative)

I need to vent about something. I thought Jared Spool's keynote at DrupalCon Chicago was fantastic. I've been showing it to coworkers, including people who work with other web frameworks and other platforms entirely. This means watching it over and over again.

Master's thesis: Women's Contribution to Free and Open Source Software

Since I promised to post this, here's Christina Haralanova's master's thesis on women in the open source community: http://www.ludost.org/content/release-10-womens-contribution-free-and-op...

The document is in French. I hope to find the time to write an English summary at some point, and Christina also hopes to translate the entire text if she finds the time and/or money to do so. In the meantime, here it is for those of you who do read French.
