April Central Florida Drupal Meetup
Join us on Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 1-3PM for a 2-hour meetup at MindComet's offices in Altamonte Springs.
There is no topic yet for the meetup, so if you would like to present something, please post it in the comments below.
Several people (including myself) won't be able to attend (due to DrupalCon SF), so it might be a great opportunity for some Q&A.

Sorry that many of you missed the meeting last night. One topic that we discussed was why Miami has a very small Dupal community and what we can do to encourage designers and developers in Miami to use Drupal.
I am fond of the one idea what we came up with, creating a basic training workshop that we can use to introduce Drupal to designers and developers in the area. Last night a couple ideas were proposed including making a couple different training tracks.
Here is my proposal:

Is anybody interested in volunteering an hour or two of their time to make the Florida DrupalCamp 2010 web site available for other Drupal user groups to clone?
Salim Lakhani from WebEnabled asked me if they could host an empty version of the site for anyone to clone for their own use. In order to do so, someone would have to do the legwork:
- checkout the site's code and obtain a current DB backup
- get the site up-and-running on their local machine
Finishing up the Junior Achievement site for Coding for a Cause
If anyone is interested in helping out finishing up the Junior Achievement site that was started during Florida DrupalCamp 2010, please either leave a comment below or contact me directly.
We only have a few tasks left, mainly involving theming.
We're hoping to finish up the site this week, with any final touches getting taken care of during next Saturday's Central Florida Drupal meetup.
Thanks,
-mike

Join us on Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 1-5PM for a 4-hour meetup at MindComet's offices in Altamonte Springs.
The primary topic for the meetup should be a "lessons learned" discussion about Florida DrupalCamp 2010. Please post any comments on this thread and we can discuss them during the meetup.
Read moreAttracting people to Drupal
Has anybody put any thought into creating workshops that attract some of the creative artistic graphic design artists in South Florida to Drupal? With the economy what it is, there are a lot of people graduating the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute and not finding work. What would be great is a workshop that focuses on theming and the workflow from .psd design to finished template.
Miami has a lot of style and design energy that would should be channeled into Drupal.

Hey everybody,
I'd like to get some feedback about what we learned about organizing Florida DrupalCamp 2010. Rather than scheduling a conference call (you're welcome), I'm hoping we can get some valuable feedback here.
I'll get us started by saying that we definitely learned that having CFCS as our 501(c)3 sponsor organization made a HUGE difference in how we were able to handle the finances for the event. I don't think we could have pulled off such a big event without their help.

O'Reilly User Group Program
Hey everybody,
We've just been accepted into the O'Reilly User Group Program. This means that as a group, we can get free review copies of O'Reilly books as long as they are used to the benefit of the group.
As the contact for the program, I can request virtually any O'Reilly book for any member - I think that in the spirit of the program, any book we request should be shared with the rest of the group (by the recipient of the book) in the following ways:
- The recipient should post a review of the book on groups.drupal.org/florida.
The Last Florida DrupalCamp Planning Conference Call!!!
Greetings everybody,
The last (and possibly most important) planning conference call from Florida DrupalCamp 2010 will be held tonight at a special time - 8:30pm.
From 8:30-9pm, Damien will be leading the discussion and the topic will be the beginner sessions. If you're presenting a beginner session, then you need to be in on this call (Joe, Marc, Ryan, Charles, Doug, Don, Gaelan, Damien, and myself).
Our "normal" rundown planning call will start at 9pm - everybody who volunteered to help should do everything they can to make this call.

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to step up and be an "official" photographer for Florida DrupalCamp? Ideally, it would be someone (or multiple someones) who already isn't signed up to do anything during the camp. It would be great to have a bunch of photos from the camp posted somewhere that everyone has access to.
Post a comment below if you'd be willing to help out.

With Florida DrupalCamp less than 3 weeks away, I thought now would be a good time to give everyone a quick synopsis of what's going to be going on at the camp.
Registration has been open for over a month and so far, we have a little over 100 people signed up for the camp. The cost to register is $6.11, but if you're a student or work for a non-profit, we'll waive the fee. We have a hard-cap on attendance of 150, so be sure to register before it is too late.

I just wanted all of the Miami Drupal community to be aware of a new organization. http://incubatemiami.com/
The Enterprise Development Corp. of South Florida (EDC) is opening a 12,000-square-foot technology incubator in downtown Miami to nurture startup companies.
The center, called Incubate Miami, will offer discounted rent to young tech companies. The benefit for companies occupying the incubator will be twofold, explained Jane Teague, EDC’s executive director: The rent is cheap and the proximity to other tech companies offers synergistic opportunities.
