Drupal Groups Churches Home

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Welcome

Welcome to the Drupal churches group. This is a group centered around building Church websites with Drupal and a point for members of The Church to go out into the Drupal community. In this group we discuss how to use Drupal, modules to use, integrating other services with Drupal, and the ins and outs of building Church websites.

The Drupal church community extends beyond this group. You can find more information and help in the IRC channel #drupal-churches on irc.freenode.org and on the Geeks and God podcast website.

Adding several events as one operation

I am in the process of revising our church website from D6 to D7, almost certainly using OpenChurch. In the D6 version I have used a custom-PHP way of adding the events for each week because the normal Drupal way of adding one event at a time is too cumbersome and would not be acceptable in our church office.

I have found previous posts about this and a D6 module called 'Multi Node Add'. Does anyone know of a D7 module or proposal that might help? I only need one targetted at adding a set of events (perhaps 10 at a time) adding initial content to 'title' and 'when' fields.

OpenChurch apps.js

I'm getting an error that I don't understand. I'm using the beta 1 version of openchurch, but it was happening when I was on the alpha 3 version as well. I'm not sure it is really an openchurch issue. I've created an issue report, but I thought I'd ask here as well.

The error is:

There was the following error - Manifest: http://173.254.28.25/~njumccom/?q=profiles/openchurch/apps.js Not Found

Openchurch & Story Content

Hi All,

Just purchased a new account for our church. For years I've been hosting our church website on my personal account.

Anyway, I installed OpenChurch and now have it setup (default setup) and have a question. I notice in OpenChurch there isn't a 'story' content type. Right now we are on a Drupal 6 implementation. We put our newletter on the website and use the story content type. I have two things I was hoping to do:

1) Continue to use "story" to do the newsletter articles and
2) have an easy way to export the data in our old site and import it into the new site.

Too many systems

Many churches are using multiple systems. For example our church uses the Fellowship One Church Mgt. system, Constant Contact, Drupal and we have tried the Table Project http://tableproject.org/. My concern is that we are getting fragmented, with applications on different systems and multiple databases. All these system result in a confusing mess.

OpenChurch and Aegir

Is anyone working with OC in an Aegir workflow? I have questions related to that which may just be due to my lack of familiarity with the distro process. I attempted to create a platform using git clone because I wanted to test the latest version. I directed the platform to the openchurch.make but it failed. Is there a particular make file I should set the front end on or should I build the core and distro. Any help in directing me to a more efficient workflow would be greatly appreciated.

Adding 3rd party App Stores to OpenChurch - an introduction

Several people have expressed interest in contributing back to the OpenChurch project.
The great news is that now with Apps, there is a functional way for 3rd parties to add their own modules/apps to OpenChurch as a way to extend functionality without baking everything into the core project.

See App Store screenshot: https://twitter.com/#!/drupalninja/status/184011723102101504/photo/1/large

Facebook revisited

It has been several years since this group last discussed Facebook, so I pose this question:

Why does a church need a web site when they have a Facebook Page?

Having problems gathering content?

Hey guys,

It was great to meet you all at the BoF. I know the issues we all run into is gathering content from the churches we work with. My manager just found a solution that looks awesome to get into instead of sending them an online spreadsheet. It's very user friendly. Check it out: http://www.gathercontent.com/

Drupal for Churches - Distributions, Appstores, etc.

At the Drupal for Churches BoF (at DrupalCon Denver), we discussed the idea of discussing things like OpenChurch and Open Parish (and things that would revolve around Church-specific distributions and features) on Groups.Drupal.org. Here's a quick post just to kick off the discussion!

Site Optimization

I have our church website up and running. It is running in a shared hosting environment. The hosting provider has indicated that the site is using a large amount of memory and I need to optimize the site. I have not done that before and am wondering if anybody knows of a how-to-optimize-your-drupal-site link that can get me jump started.

New Website Finally Launched ...

Hi all - we just launched our new Drupal website, which we have been working on for quite a while ... http://www.springglenchurch.org. This replaces an old site that was set up with a simple CMS system called Article Manager. The new site is getting great feedback so far from our church members, but I'd be very interested in getting feedback from the folk who really have the experience with this world .. ! ;)

Web Page for Caregivers Support Group

Does anyone have an example of a page designed for a support group within the church community?

I have been asked to create a page to be used by members of the caregivers support group. There will probably be a second request in a few days from the long-term illness support group. Before I start building, I would like to see examples of existing work.

Thanks.

Struggling with building a Calendar

I am trying to build a church calendar. I have watched a number of Podcasts on this topic and it doesn't seem that difficult but I am missing something. First of all, I am running on Drupal 6.15 and I am using cck 6.x-2.6, views 6.x-2.8, date 6.x-2.7, and Calendar 6.x-2.4.

Please take a look at www.myvcc.com/calendar and then let me ask the following questions:

1. Why isn't the name of the month displaying?
2. Why is there a narow column to the far left on the calendar with the numbers 49 - 53?

Help finishing up a church Drupal-based site

Our new church website is 85% ready to go live. Our Drupal developer finished the initial development and has left us in the troubleshooting stage. Since he has decided to move on and not complete the project, we are in big trouble. None of us are Drupal programmers. I am the designer. I know a moderate amount of Joomla, Wordpress, Magento and Expression Engine but I am not fluent in Drupal. In order to create a plan to move forward, we need someone to analyze the state of the development.

Creating a CCK field module

I wanted to create CCK field module. I am supposing there would be special considerations for cck field modules than a regular stand alone module. Where would be a good place to point me to?

Drupal Commerce for Donations

I have been trying to do something in Ubercart, but after watching a screencast on Commerce and Rules I think Commerce may be a better solution. Her is what I want to do:
I wnat user to be able to donate to other users and the site. If a user donates to another user whatever amount they decide the user will get 90% and I will get 10%(I believe this can be done with rules). I want a donate button for the user to show up on the profile. I would like to handle this through paypal. Is this possible through Drupal Commerce.
