Event type:
User group meeting

Join us Wednesday February 15th for our monthly OC Drupal Meetup.
Everyone is welcome.

As usual we will be having the event on the 4th floor conference room at the KWALL location in Irvine, 4100 Newport Place Dr., Newport Beach, CA. Meeting starts at 6:30pm. If you arrive after 7 you will need to find a security guard to let you in. There's free parking in the parking structure; enter from Dove St. near the corner of Newport Place Dr.

We are having a BuildAModule.com DVD raffle giveaway.
Make sure to ask for a ticket when you arrive.

After the meetup we partake in Drupal After Dark at Classic Q located just across the parking lot from KWALL. This is a great time to network, ask more questions and get to know the Drupal community, for others its a good time to have a beer in the middle of the week :)

Building a commerce site from scratch

by philoSurfer

Mariano will be presenting on how to use the new fandangled Commerce module.
Previously Kevin Kwall had presented on the difference between Ubercart and Commerce and when to use either. Now that Commerce has matured a little I think its time to show how someone can build a store.

Topics I will cover:

  • Configuring basic store
  • Creating product types
  • Creating product attributes
  • Importing products via commerce feeds module.
  • Building a usable product View
  • hopefully all within 45 minutes. :)

Creating Installation Profiles for rapid deployment

by jromine

As developers we tend to have clients asking for similar features for their project. One good way of making your life easier is to create Installation Profiles. Now you may ask.... well I use Features, why Profiles? John will show you why.

Hey Clint,

Yeah, its been a while. I just looked at the date, I really want to go to this one, but that might mean missing the main meetup in LA and that one is a must go to event for me this month. Going to both would probably mean flowers on the 14th and 16th for me.

Job Listings

I forgot to mention Job Listings.. If anyone would like to present a Job Listing... Please contact myself or one of the other OC Drupal Admins about allocating time for your presentation.

Job Listing

Jim Banister's picture

Hi, Mariano. I can't be there, but would be obliged for a mention of our job opening.

We're using Drupal creatively to create a social impact platform called MicroNeeds. We have corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, benefactors, foundations, fellow NGOs and our "Loyal 1000" ready to use the platform and put it thru its paces. We need one or two more team members to birth the baby so those folks can dig in and use it to its noble purpose.

Full job description is here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/208303

We'd appreciate the mention!

Thanks!
Jim

Awesome meetup last night!

justclint's picture

Awesome meetup last night! Thanks Mario and John for those great presentations. Both topics discussed were extremely helpful.

Well Im off to go make an installation profile!

Oh yeah, next time, can we turn the tables to face the screen next time. My neck is sore from looking sideways all night.

Thanks again!

Great meetup and great turnout

webbywe's picture

Yea it was a great meetup and great turnout. It should not be a problem adjusting tables but will check with KWall. It may take everyone pitching in before and after to rearrange the tables. Thanks.

Oh its no big deal. I just

Oh its no big deal. I just recalled the previous meetup had them the other way. I dont think security opened the door to the conference room until after 6:30 so I know we were rushed to start. But yeah my necks little chueco today. Aint nothing I cant handle.

Thank you Everyone who showed up!

philosurfer's picture

Great turnout, we had a full room last night.

I apologize for the slightly disorganized presentation on Commerce, as it was my first presentation on the module. I will try and have the video up sometime today.

I also stated I would post some links we discussed

Noteworthy Commerce Links

I had a great time at last night meetup. Both Mariano and John gave me a lot to think about in terms of workflow and best practices. A nice treat and I hope to be a part of that group again :)

Thanks Mariano!!

Ecommerce from scratch

From me also -- was this presentation taped? Are there any slides running around? If not for either, any chance this important presentation can be repeated at the next westside Drupal meetup, and perhaps be taped and posted then?

Also, I'd love to hear advantages/disadvantages of using ubercart versus ecommence with D7.

Thanks.

Ecommerce from scratch...

Secure Order Form's picture

I can't wait for this project to get off the ground. Drupal Ecommerce is such a high potential topic because of the talent in the community here and it's about time we had a bigger presence in the ecommerce industry. If anyone wants to collaborate on this we could even talk about integrating some of the order form systems I've built for my clients at https://www.secureorderform.com ... Or if there is anything you guys need from a testing or development standpoint please let me know.

Would love to see that presentation as well if it is available. Is there a link to it anywhere?
