Well, if you can believe it, after all my hard work...the company I was doing this for decided to go with thier old HTML designer. Long story short, admidst me working on it, he marched back into the office on his own accord and bent the boss to his will to prove that he is better for the company because he has worked there before (unlike me). So now, I have no idea what kind of thing I can do with Drupal right now so that Im at least learning something. Any chance that there is a place online for Drupal newbs to get into a project for learning purposes?
Incidentally, it looks like I may have an event on the Saturday after the meeting that has me waking up a bit too early to make the meeting on Friday. Hoping to get some feedback here on this thread about this in the meantime.

One good place to find work
One good place to find work is right here on the Drupal Forums in the paid services forum. The jobs there range from full-time to small little bounties, I think they sometimes post non paid jobs there too, for people that are in the same position as you, that just want a Drupal job solely to gain experience. The best way to learn is by doing.
Also, we decided to change the day for High Desert Drupal to the first Wednesday of the month. We didn't have any naysayers in discussing the date change so I reserved our space at McDonalds for the rest of the year for the first Wednesday of the month. Hope you can still make it.
The next meeting will be May 6th, details about the meeting to come. It's going to be a good one, and all about theming.

Exactly why I am seeking a way to learn through doing a project. The original work I had lined up was to do just that but now tht it is there, Im kind of drifting with no direction. As in my tags for this thread and what you said, I do learn by doing because of how much of a visual based learner I am. Any other non-paid drupal project forums would help but I shall look in your provided link.
If you move this next meeting to the Wednesday (May 6th), Ill have no problem making it. Sadly with the amount of photoshoots Im having to do on weekends, it is great timing that you want to actually do the date change now. I seriously am baffled on how my Fridays suddenly got full. The theming aspect will definitly interest me despite that Im not there yet with this setback.
