Why isn't DrupalCampLA in Los Angeles?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Curious. I was a community sponsor last year.

It is a bit odd that LA Drupal Camp is being hosted in Irvine, kinda akin to the LA Angels of Anaheim.

We had no other viable options

Putting on a FREE event is hard. Economy & budget this year is different. LA Convention center was quickly off the list because of this fact.

But ultimately it came down to finding a venue. We either couldn't afford, couldn't find a large enough space, or were priced out. UC Irvine School of Engineering, was the only venue we approached that was big enough, interested, and affordable. Not that it matters much in choice of venue, but they were also in attendance last year.

Other considerations... some of our most regular meetup members over the last two years make the trek from Orange County. We've also had visits from SD crowd, not to mention lots of participation at DrupalCampLA last year.

PLUS, UCI is very close to rail access. Its one of the only schools with rail access that I'm aware of. It's also 3-4miles from a major airport, another important consideration.

DrupalCampLA is more than just Los Angeles

Drupal Camp LA each year has been spearheaded by LA Drupal, but always with involvement from neighboring user groups. At the moment we have support from the Drupal groups in: San Diego, Santa Barbara, High Desert, Orange County, and Las Vegas.

Can't wait to see all of you with us in Irvine this year.

This is going to be a kick

This is going to be a kick ass event. The University has a great clean environment with 'smart classroom' technology features in EVERY room that will mean a lot less setup time for the organizers. Each classroom has integrated monitor/projector setup with amplification for any audio. The wireless is top notch and will require no attention from camp organizers. Not to mention the fact that we'll have a lot of discussion sized classrooms for birds of a feather gatherings.

I know its a bit of a drive for some, but I can assure everyone its worth it.

I'm really excited to see the camp held at a University this year!
