Update- After a decent amount of interest in the Drupal Fit group, I am adding this to the drupal la audience to see if there is anymore interest. Currently there are 6 people interested in playing mostly on the westside of town but I think we could be somewhat flexible on location.
Hi All,
I was curious to see if there was any interest in getting a friendly pick-up soccer game going with drupal users in LA. I know a few drupal devs that play or used to play soccer back in the day and I thought it could be fun to get some exercise in this way. So please comment if you are interested and leave the area you are based out of and what days you are free. I have already fallen off the wagon of being more active in 2013 so hopefully this can happen and will help.
Cheers,
Brian

I'm In
You know I'm in. Been wanting someone to do this for awhile now.
Schedule is pretty flexible, where can we play around here?
IN!
Thanks for suggesting this. I live in west hollywood, but can travel a bit to help make this happen. I have folding goals (and other gear if necessary), so we can play anywhere we can find a space.
I'm open to times and locations, but can help suggest possible places if no one else has any ideas.
I'm in as well. I need to
I'm in as well. I need to figure out which days would work for me, but this is really exciting :)

In also! Been hoping someone would suggest/start this. It's been a LONG time since kicking the old ball around & I don't even own a pair of cleats anymore hehe. Since I've recently started to get back on a healthier regimen, this comes at a perfect time (& with a bunch of ppl I already love hanging out with!).
RE: where? Living in South Central L.A. where there's lots of Latinos who play soccer in leagues of varying levels, I'm surrounded by spaces we can possibly use but since not many of you probably live out this way it's possibly not a good fit since it's not very central. I'll go wherever y'all find a spot & am totally game to travel somewhere that makes it easier for @BTMash to participate (i.e. SFV) since he lives pretty far from most of us (well don't know all of u but the ones that I do know).
It'd be cool, if we get enough folks to make it a "thing" & wouldn't it be fun to make a "Los Drupaleros" team that played in a weekly adult league? Ok, I'm clearly overexcited & suffering from lack of sleep but hey, I can dream right? ;)
To make it easier, should we post where we all live to figure out where we can find a central place? I'll start (& will fill in what I know of others, hope that's ok):
@Techivist (Miguel): Watts (basically near the 105 FWY between the 110 & 710.
@oseldman (Oliver): West Hollywood
@BTMash (Ashok): Santa Clarita
@mike.roberts (Mike): ???
@viewfromtselevel (?): ???

Hi Miguel, Thanks for the
Hi Miguel,
Thanks for the enthusiastic response. I too, thought it would be pretty neat if we had enough people to start a team, but we'll see if it gets to that point. Mike and I are both in Culver City. I am not sure how many people we would need to have a decent outing. I am not exactly sure where else to publicize this post other than this particular group. I am open to any other suggestions.

I'm thinking whoever shows up
Howdy & well met, Brian! I'm thinking whoever shows up can just form a circle & kick the ball around, initially & just go from there. I'm just trying to get out & move around more often to reverse my mindset of sitting too long. :)
What are good days/times for ppl to kick this off?
Would one of you like to give a presentation at the upcoming Greater Los Angeles Drupal Camp (GLADCamp) on the Drupal Fit movement & why it's important to include exercise to balance our lives (sorry, just thought that'd be something cool to hear about & that it might inspire others at the Camp to join us for soccer)?

Since I'll be moving within
Since I'll be moving within the next few months, I'm not (yet) going to worry too much about the location especially since I'm using to having to drive around LA for the meetups (unless you start picking OC and its really 1.5 hrs to get there) - my only real concern will be if I have a car to come to the outing :)
No worries, Ashok. I was just
No worries, Ashok. I was just trying to be mindful of your commute, brother.
Re: if you don't have a car. Let me know, I'm glad to help you out if you're willing to take public transportation. Funny story: my buddies in college used to make fun of me 'cuz they could give me a corner location anywhere in LA & I could tell 'em exactly which bus lines to take to get from A to B. They always tripped out & even tried making it a drinking game haha.

Drupal Team in a league
Howdy,
Glad to see the response on this has been great. What do you think about making a drupal team in an adult soccer league somewhere around LA?

I'm sure there are more as well, these were just some from a quick google search.
Sounds worthwhile
I give myself a decent amount of upper-body fitness time during most weeks but, I've been wanting to ride my bike more, and this might just be something I'm down for to accomplish the same goal of transforming my bird legs!
Never Played
I have quite literally never played soccer. (It's the one where you use your feet, right?) :)
Okay, I've kicked the ball around with my kids, but I've never been on a team. However I REALLY need to get more exercise, so I am interested if you think the Drupal team will have room for rank amateurs.
Glad to see some renwed
Glad to see some renwed interest in this thread. My original intention was to just round up some people to kick the ball around and it be open to any skill level. I feel like we should do that first before agreeing to such a large commitment like a league. Although if there is overwhelming support for a team I'd be in favor of it. ejanus and mcfilms, where are you guys located? What nights work for you both?
Did anyone ever get together
Did anyone ever get together for a pickup game here in Los Angeles?
I've noticed that there are plenty of pickup games being discussed and organized in /r/losangeles on Reddit:

Not that I know of,
Not that I know of, Christefano.
Personally, I'm still interested, though I mostly play basketball. I am, however, looking to get back into playing baseball competitively so am looking at leagues to join (& so is my brother) so am evaluating the quality of play & how good the competition is. :)

Baseball
Hi Miguel,
I have a friend that is a former pitcher for the Oakland Athletics. I also have a friend that owns the majority share of the Seattle Mariners.
I think it would be interesting to put together a game of sorts.
Diane
Thank you!
Thanks
Hey guys, I've just recently
Hey guys, I've just recently joined the community as well as I moved to LA.
Have you ever got together for a game?
If anyone is still interested, there are a lot of pickup games in Los Feliz and Little Armenia, to name a few places (just I live nearby).
We can just check out http://trytopic.com to see what's currently happenning there, find a court suitable for anyone and go from there?
Don't know a lot of folks in LA yet, so would appreciate any response :)
Hi James, and welcome to Los
Hi James, and welcome to Los Angeles! As far as I know, no one has gotten together for a game. What part of LA are you in?
