Hi all. After the meeting Sunday a few of us discovered a common desire to learn more about building communities online and share what works and doesn't. The group will focus on attracting members/participants, holding on to the ones you have, and to a lesser degree on monetizing a community site. (For some communities clearly that isn't appropriate.) The above topics are not Drupal-specific though I expect there will be a certain Drupal bias by default.
If you are interested in participating in such a group please let me know. I would like a rough gauge of interest to figure out what sort of venue for the meeting is required. Right now I am somewhere between "table for one at Starbucks" and "Staples Center"!

As a side note... Javier graciously promised to show up on Sunday so I am up to at least a table for two!

I'm definitely in.
In fact, I'm willing to get others to commit to attending in the hopes that by getting "end users" and "tech types" together we can get at the core of what makes for a successful community site.
Thanks Kirk for getting this off the ground.
I'm in! :)
Although I am thoroughly consumed with an ongoing Drupal project, I believe the project can be mutually advantageous.
let me know
hi all, i had posted on the LA group the below post about this exact subject so if have such meetings pls let me know directly, thnx, steve
hi all, new here and not a programmer. I am pretty sure I've decided on drupal after a lot of research and an article by ibm engineers with their decision to use it and why http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/ibm/library/i-osource1/ Now I’m wondering the best route to reach an interested tech partner for the project preferably in the SoCal area due to working with designers and myself directly. I don’t want to just post on rentacoder or jobs here because I’m really looking to have an ongoing relationship with another entrepreneur type who would like to be creative and part of something long term as opposed to just another job they do and hand off. I’d like to find good boards or rooms to throw that out there (hopefully this is a good place for that too). Suggestions or other advice is appreciated or letting me know how to reach anyone interested in talking. Direct email is best, I am not on all the time. Thnx, steve
Thanks!
I appreciate the feedback here! I will be posting a bit more information to the front page soon...
