Last month we had a good meeting with presentations on Workgroup and GLAD a year in review. Because of the ways the dates fall this month the meeting is early the 16 th is the third Thursday. I will be good to get together again and kick off the new year.
We do not have any presentations at this time but I we will discuss these in the comments. Normally we run out of time before we run out of topics so there should not be any worries of a dead meeting.
GLADCamp is just around the corner. This is taking place in the San Gabriel Valley so there should not be any reason us to not be involved. Besides attending we need to look for ways we can volunteer to help make the event amazing!
Come ready to share all your tips.

Presentations & Lightning Talks
Do you have a presentation or job announcement that you'd like to share with the group? Is there a topic about anything you'd like to see a presentation on? Post a comment below to let all the organizers and attendees know what you're interested in. Lightning Talks — brief, 5-minute long presentations on any topic related to Drupal — are very welcome.
Announcing GLADCamp, the Greater Los Angeles Drupal Camp
GLADCamp, the Greater Los Angeles Drupal Camp, is a free, 3-day event coming up on March 7th, 8th & 9th, and is at Hilton Pasadena & Convention Center in Pasadena, California.
After many months of planning we're excited to announce and discuss what we're planning, including sessions, BoFs, trainings, industry-specific summits, a job fair, a barn raising to benefit a local non-profit, receptions, and more!
Users Helping Users
The meetup this month will include Users Helping Users, which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal.
Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bona fide consulting from Drupal professionals that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!
Agenda
Our meetups follow a basic format and start off with Drupal news and announcements, local job announcements, raffle prizes and full-length presentations. As always, we'll have community Q&A, during which time anyone in attendance can ask questions, divine answers from the crowd and give brief, 5-10 minute-long presentations known as lightning talks.
We will begin at 6:00

Getting started helping Drupal 8
Last night Oliver Seldman gave a lightning talk on getting started in helping Drupal 8. I do not know if we can twist his arm to do this again for us, if not I can plagiarize him or we can watch the video. What do you think.
With Drupal 8 starting to get close the discussion is a low investment way to learn some more details about parts of Drupal 8 and help it happen.
Good idea, but the most
Good idea, but the most effective way to get people to learn Drupal 8 might be for various people in the group to start building D8 sites, & then get together & discuss the pros & cons -- at that point we will probably understand the issues with D8 better, & be able to better help with it.
Jeff
This can trigger a little discussion
Hi,
Oliver covered this in his presentation but we can discuss this as well.

Not Drupal but I can talk about OwnCloud
Lately I have been looking at alternatives to FTP. I came across OwnCloud. OwnCloud is an open source file sharing application, think of your own drop box or iCloud. I can present an introduction to OwnCloud, it may help you solve a problem for your customer/boss.
I'd love to see a
I'd love to see a presentation on OwnCloud. Have you been using it yet? If so, are you using OwnCloud.com or the self-hosted OwnCloud.org?
OwnCloud
Hi,
I have been testing the self hosted solution from OwnCloud.org.
Using OwnCloud
I have been using OwnCloud for a year or so, with the most usage coming in the last month. I installed the software on my server. Installation was easy, but there were a couple of gotcha's.
Cool
This sounds like an interesting conversation. Would you like to present or should I present and you can add to the discussion.
+1
I'd be interested in hearing about OwnCloud, as well as how it stacks up against other cloud storage solutions anyone may have tried out.
Cloud Presentations
It must be best to have a mini-panel discussion on cloud storage options and capabilities. I have not used ownCloud with Drupal, but it is used (in one case) as a separate installation in a Drupal site.
Any more topic ideas
We have a couple going any more ideas for presentations / discussions.
If there's time and interest,
If there's time and interest, I can do a 15 minute walkthrough of the Cron Key module, what it does, and specifically how it works:
https://drupal.org/project/cron_key
I wrote it 2 weeks ago as an instructional example for the Module Development Boot Camp and it was just nominated to be added to Drupal core:

Lightning talk on performance (ab / apc / sql query cache)?
I could give a really quick talk on low-hanging performance fruit if anyone's interested.
Yes! +1
Yes! I'd be interested in this.
If you would so kind, please let us record your talk so we can share it with the larger group via our video channel. Do you have any screen recording software?
I'll see if I can get
I'll see if I can get screencasting working.
This morning I found a couple
This morning I found a couple emails from the Drupal security team and learned that Cron Key has been reviewed for security vulnerabilities.
This is the first time a contributed module of mine has been reviewed and it was an interesting experience. I'd be happy to share the process of this particular review and its outcome.
ps. Editing to say that no vulnerabilities were found. :)
Good program for tonight
Looks like a good program for tonight, lots of good topics for discussion.
sand camp
I'm also wondering if we can briefly chat about sandcamp next week-- the different seminars on offer there, etc.
How about we dedicate 15-30
How about we dedicate 15-30 minutes to SANDCamp instead of our usual news and announcements?
Update on OwnCloud
Hi,
I am still working on getting ownCloud 6 working. Installed again the ubuntu install per instructions, installs 5.04.
One thing I noticed is this seems to be a Suse project. Note the link to the install routines. I tried the Suse appliance. Came up but could not get the network working. Next install suse and install ownCloud on this. Could try downloading the application instead of the apt-get install.
February Meetup
Hi,
We did not discuss the meeting for February. The third Thursday is the 20th. SCALE21x starts the next day. How about it is the 20th good? Please reply to this comment with your feedback.
Meetup date
20th works OK for me also. I'd say that the only thing to watch out for would be that we don't run the meeting too late, so those working at SCALE12X (probably will include myself) don't get shorted on sleep. In general, I'd expect it woul;d work fine.
Jeff
Shall we continue with the
Shall we continue with the third Thursday even though the November and December holidays are behind us?
My preference is to return to the original schedule of 4th Thursdays. I'll be at Droplabs and then at SCALE very early on the morning of the 21st (a few of us will presenting on how Droplabs started and how to replicate its business model) and would appreciate having the night of the 20th off.
By the way, anyone going to SCALE 12x can use coupon code DROP when registering to get 50% off the already low price of admission.
So the question is 3rd or 4th Thursday
So far we have two for the 20 and one not so much.
How about the the 27 is this good for all or does someone not like the 27th?
Either is fine with me.
Either OK with me.
Either OK with me.

20th works for me...
OwnCloud 6
Hi,
I got OwnCloud6 up and running. Seems like the ubuntu install files are still 5, so I used the webinstall option and ran the script that downloaded and installed on a webserver. After I did this I moved the data folder out of the web root, configured it for ssl and allowed for large uploads. I have not tried the inplace editing of OpenDocument files will get to this.
This is great stuff, keep the
This is great stuff, keep the updates coming! I hope to test OwnCloud 6 soon and would love to hear which issues you encounter and what their solutions are.
