Part One:

Delegate roles and responsibilities for Drupal CampLA. Crystal, the Doyenne of the Event, will take names of those willing to help with organizing, speaking, and plain elbow grease.

Part Two:

get a focus group on Event Aggregation started. This is a specific branch of a much larger entity, social networking sites which raise awareness and generate their own capital.

Gus will lead this discussion.

Out of Town

Hey guys,

I'll be in my home state of Texas, eating BBQ and listening to Lyle Lovett (or something to that effect) while this is happening, so I will not be joining y'all.

We have much good news on DrupalCampLA, but still OH SO MUCH to do. Please see http://barcamp.org/DrupalCampLA and fill holes as you see them. The Presenter Bios page (don't be shy!) and Session Topics page especially need some serious wiki love.

Also, if you haven't added yourselves to http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/221082/ - SHAME! Go do so now. We need to start getting an idea of the headcount.

We also need to get the word out in a big way, so please talk this up, blog it up, whatever you've got, now's the time to get people fired up. Drop me a line if you need some specific text for this and I'll be happy to provide.

Lessee.. there's a DrupalCampLA group on google groups that I wanted to use for organizer wrangling, but it's still pretty bare. There's also a Facebook group you can go sign up for.

We Need
* Publicity
* Curriculum Wrangling
* Venue Ideas for a Party Saturday night
* Wiki farming
* Someone to man the registration Desk at the Event
* Set-up and tear down help

Don't email me and say you want to do such and such.. Add it to the wiki! :-)

Thanks so much! More sponsor info, etc coming soon.

-Crystal

Setting the table for event syndication and aggregation

gusaus's picture

Didn't realize I was being summoned to lead this focus group (and will be without laptop) - here are some bits which should at least set the table...

Objective

Would like to integrate/import event/calendar info from services like Eventful or Upcoming instead of creating another closed repository for event info.

  • Provide an easy means to submit/syndicate event data to multiple portals
    • submit data into in a structured, standardized fashion
  • Anyone listing events could, in turn, pull/import data from a repository rather than inputing the events themselves.
    • each event would have it's own node
    • provide a means to link/add/embed additional data

Potential uses

  • venue/restaurant data for a newspaper or alt-weekly
  • events for a venue
  • concerts for a band/artist

Upcoming.org module

There's been a lot of promising activity/interest (on a local level and elsewhere) regarding reviving and expanding on the upcoming.org module

The upcoming.org module enables you to import events and venues from upcoming.org and display them in a calendar using the event module. Upcoming.org is a website that helps you share and keep track of your events. Synchronizing (using upcoming.org as the master repository) is also supported. Additionally, this module exposes the upcoming.org REST API, making clients written to use it interoperable with Drupal. This makes it possible to build a whole network of websites sharing their events, all using a defined API.
