Leave GoDaddy Day at Droplabs on December 29, 2011
December 29, 2011 is Leave GoDaddy Day and we're celebrating the occasion with a domain transfer and website migration workshop at Droplabs. You're invited!
What's Leave GoDaddy Day, you say? In simplest terms, we're participating in a global event with thousands of others and are moving GoDaddy-registered domains and GoDaddy-hosted websites to other registrars and webhosts.
This impromptu workshop is being organized by individuals who have done this migration already. If you've been inclined to do the same but wanted a helpful hand, this event is for you. Drop in any time between 11am and 4pm. We'll also be in the #droplabs IRC channel during the workshop and will provide emotional and technical support as needed.

In this all-day workshop, top experts with years of front-line experience building large-scale Drupal deployments show you the best known practices for running fast sites for a large volume of users. Starting with a blank Linux virtual server, we will work through the setup, configuration and tuning of Drupal using Varnish, Pressflow, Apache, MySQL, Memcache and Apache Solr.
Through this process, we will explain common pitfalls and how to avoid them. By the end of this course you should feel comfortable with the basics of how to setup, configure and tune your Drupal site. You’ll learn the most robust solutions the community has discovered.

Droplabs is happy to take part in Drupal Coworking Friday, a worldwide event spurred in part by the DrupalEasy Podcast #65 which featured Droplabs. We're in Downtown Los Angeles and are happy to host anyone in our local community or who is just passing through for some coworking on the last Friday of each month for some coworking. This event is free!
While every day is a Drupal coworking day at Droplabs, we're doing something different on Drupal Coworking Fridays and will provide light food and drinks all day. These are being hosted by Blake, Christefano and Paul, a few of the Droplabs founders.
After the day is over, a group of us will go to a nearby restaurant or pub. In the past we've had beers and a bonfire and were serenaded by Skrillex. We've also gone to a variety of other locations, including Barbara's at The Brewery (at 620 Moulton Ave., just a 5 minute walk away) and Carnitas Michoacan (on 1901 N. Broadway, just a 5 minute drive away).
About Drupal Coworking Friday:
- Proposed date: Last Friday of each month
- It takes place in your local city
- Anyone can start/host one
- Focused on Drupal Professionals (freelance, fulltime, part time, in office, home, etc.)
- This is not a meetup, code-sprint, BoF or presentation
- Attendees would still do their regular work/calls/etc
- Other Drupal folks would be there to talk to, collaborate, advise (and likewise for the attendee)
- Ideally, an entire section of the space will be dedicated for Drupal professionals
See http://groups.drupal.org/node/195983 for the Drupal Coworking Friday FAQ and the Coworking group at http://groups.drupal.org/coworking for general information about coworking.
