Yahoo usability tests bode ill for OpenID takeup
http://www.betanews.com/article/Yahoo_usability_tests_bode_ill_for_OpenI...
Read moreObserving these tests was more than a bit frustrating for the Yahoo OpenID team, and the test subjects may have been distracted by the sounds of the groans and head-pounding coming from the other side of the one-way mirror. Certainly there is a lot of work to be done on the OpenID UX (user experience) front.
Jeroen Couwmans' tips for account-pages
From: http://jeroencoumans.nl/journal/drupal-user-account-pages
"... That’s just weird and plain bad usability – a page title should be descriptive of the main function of a page.
Anyway, there are ways to override that. Drupal uses a placeholder variable to dynamically determine the page and head title based on the internal path. In your theme, you’ll find something like the following: ..."
Read moreSort modules according to their features/functions
Currently /modules lists modules in their own category or in the 'other' category.
How about a tab such as 'list by feature/function' which displays modules such as social networking modules, feed aggregation modules, etc.. and their add ons in their respective umbrella categories?
As an example,
Social networking modules such as Organic groups and User Relationships are displayed together under a umbrella term of 'Social Networking.'

Wordpress 2.7 vs Drupal 6.4 - Posting Content, Administering Content & Instant Installation
I worked with both Wordpress and Drupal and in overall I really like Drupal better. After seeing the below video I think that there’s mainly 2 things that Wordpress 2.7 does better than Drupal though. They are first a better usability for posting and administering content, and then second a better usability for installing plugins and themes.

I would like to open a discussion after a chat on #drupal-usability channel about admin/build/themes and administration theme settings page.
Based on the fact that multiple theme functionality will be removed from D7 core and moved to contrib.
Here is the first draft we can start with: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30032901@N04/2922043198/sizes/o/

Read moreRequest for UI Advice for Comment Notify module
Hello, Usability folks.
I'm the maintainer of the comment notify module and I'm about to add two new features that I thought could use your guidance.
Comment notify currently adds a single checkbox to the comment form that allows both authenticated and anonymous commenters to subscribe to future comments on a node.

This is my first proposal for changes to the content creation form.
They are minor but yet I feel they will make things easier. I thought let's get a few basic things rolling before we get to the really hard stuff later on. Pease do comment on each of the four changes seperatly.
So here are my thoughts behind this mockup.

I usually edit node.tpl.php to control how the submission date is displayed.
How about a drag and drop interface with date settings instead of fixed presets for users to select how the date is displayed?

Quick UX review please:
Last updated by ultimateboy on Fri, 2009-02-20 18:01
Please review active core usability issues, specifically:
- Filter for permissions page
- Allow more users to see the node admin page
- Make "approval queue" the default page for comment
- Improve usability of "Select all" feature
- Book module workflow improvements
- Breadcrumbs are only taken from one menu
- Move "Read more" link to the end of the nodes teaser

The email notification links for a closed discussion should not contain the link for the Post Reply since none can be added. This is confusing to any user but particularly someone new. Maybe the text should read "Post reply: Closed discussion".

Read moreUpdate Status Page
OK, so I've spent a bit of time rethinking the update status page... I think it's time for some feed back.
I've broken it into 4 areas: Critical Updates, Available Updates, New Versions, and Up To Date.
Critical Updates are those which need updating right now.
Available Updates are those for which an update exists but is not mandatory.
New Versions would be like an upgrade from imagecache to imagecache 2.
And Up To Date is obvious.
I don't have core showing on here, but it would appear in the category that applies to it (only ever Critical, New Version or Up To Date).

IRC Meeting: Work Organization Strategy
How about an IRC Meeting. I'd suggest the following date:
Tuesday, 23rd Sept. 20.00 CEST
And how about concentrating on Guidelines for our work organization.
There are some instant suggestions that come to my mind, which I'd like to propose, so maybe (maybe!) we come out with recommendations to everyone that proposes a task / an improvement:
