New module: Slashdot style comment system
This module implements major features of Slashdot moderation and comment system. I made a few attempts previously with various hacks/modules, but this module is very mature and fully compatible with latest VotingAPI. I have not encountered any issues using this module.
What it does:
Transforms comment controls to Slasdot type (thresholding).
Displays each comment slashdot-type.
Hides comments below threshold. Hidden comments can be uncollapsed by a click.
Provides slashdot moderation system (troll, interesting, insightful, funny, etc).
Delete tab (MENU_LOCAL_TASK) for nodes and removing "delete" button from node forms
This module adds a "delete" MENU_LOCAL_TASK to all nodes and removes "delete" button from all node forms. While this module is very simple and may not seem important for a developer, it does provide a significant improvement for content publishers/maintainers, especially to those who are new to Drupal.
Please leave your feedback.
Also, can I submit it as a contributed module?

Improving the usability of the Issue Queue
There has been a lot of informal talk about Drupal’s issue queue. For designers and non-technical people, it can be a confusing place. And while there has also been some talk about creating a separate place to discuss design-related issues (for example), the simple fact is: the issue queue is where developers get informed about problems and requests and that’s the place where they organize the work that they do. If non-developers want to improve the code, they have to use the issue queue.

The 'Find Content' form has a prominent place in Drupal 7. However, the form poses accessibility challenges. The filter form is composed of radio buttons and dropdowns that visually correspond for sighted users but there is no indication they correspond for screen-reader users.
I've proposed a change to the Find Content filter form. I'm seeking feedback here and in issue #551034. I believe the change is a win-win for accessibility and usability.
Here is a screenshot of the proposed form:

I am looking for people who are able to do video editing, I have a number of videos that need some title's and minor editing. These are all video recordings of usability testing we have been doing at Baltimore in 2009, we have been able to release three of them but we intend to trow out all of of them - but for that to happen before Drupalcon I will need some help. You can reach me by contact form.

Thank you
Senpai replies: You should probaby have posted this in the forums on drupal.org instead, since this groups.drupal.org wiki is for the proponents of usability within Drupal itself. Try http://drupal.org/search/apachesolr_search/tinymce?filters=type%3Aforum as a starter link, kk? :)
Read moreManaging Blocks
I'm sure many of us have noticed a need for better block management. Or at least, these people have:
http://drupal.org/node/343710, http://drupal.org/node/416002, http://drupal.org/node/197844, http://drupal.org/node/386532
It does get harder to keep the blocks in the right order and to find the one you want to edit as the list grows, but my biggest problem is handling visibility settings.
As a user, here's how I'd expect to use blocks:
Read moreActive Issue about Changing the Name of the "Page" Content-type
Hi folks,
Read moreCritical UI/screen real estate issue with Views
I'm posting this because it's so solvable and yet it causes so much grief.
Try to imagine you've never worked with Views before, and you're pretty daring about trying out new software. Like most of us, you're likely to start throwing things around before you've finished reading the documentation.
You go to /admin/build/views and see "storage" "type" "tag" with no explanation. You do see a list of views, and you decide to try playing with one of them to see what happens, so you click on the "edit" link.

Read moreSettings for content types: per type or big list?
Admin UI question to ponder:
Suppose a module adds a property or setting to content types: it allows you to say "content types X, Y, Z have property foo, or can do a particular thing, or do a thing in this particular way".
When should this be a UI element added to the content type admin page, and when should this be a single list of all content types?
A run-down of examples:
Added to the content type admin page: upload, comment, nodeblock, community_tags, meta tags, nodewords, content_profile
List of types: taxonomy, flag, simplenews
g.d.o CAPTCHA is poorly accessible
The other day I posted to the accessibility group on g.d.o and was asked to solve a CAPTCHA. As a screen-reader user, posting in an accessibility forum, I was quite surprised.
Now, I was made a little less frustrated when I noticed that the CAPTCHA included an audio alternative. However, the audio is sufficiently unclear that it was a challenge for me to solve on the first attempt, and I cannot imagine the challenge it would be for someone who is hearing impaired.
In short, audio / visual CAPTCHAs, even when used together, are a poor accessibility practice.

Hi everyone,
One annoying thing I found about the drupal website at the beginning is when I would type in a module name in the search box, i.e. "fckeditor" and the main module page would never come up. Everything would be issues or forum topics. I couldn't figure it out till I learned to just go to /project/xxx

Code sprint to improve User experience for Drupal 7 - 22nd & 23rd of August at The Economist, London
The thought came up a couple days ago, during the conversation with Robert Castelo.
We could use our office space in Holborn, Central London. We can have 2 days on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of August.
Let's focus on improving the user experience on Drupal.
There's no agenda yet.
Your thoughts are welcome!
Read moreUI-oriented summary of D7 Field API
This Wiki page summarizes the UI needs for the D7 Field API, to get the ball rolling on design discussions.
Discussion currently takes place in the comments here - or is there any other place more in line with D7UX habits ?
Introduction
A good UI for D7 Field API remains to be invented - esp. when considering a couple new features compared to CCK D6.
Read moreNeed to be Able to Customize Text on My Account Edit Page, Remind to Save
Currently in Administer>>User Settings you can customize various aspects of user registration, but not, as far as I can see, what the user sees when editing their account information. This would be helpful. Also, depending on the site configuration, there can be a lot of stuff between the top of the page and the "Save" button. Might be nice to have reminders for the user to click "save" when making changes.
Read moreDrupal "Member for..." on My Account Page Confusing for User of CiviCRM sites
Many Drupal sites run by non-profits also use CiviCRM. Many of those have memberships in the organizations managed by CiviCRM. When a user visits a site of a membership organization that uses CiviCRM and goes to the "My Account" page, s/he will see "Member for x years and x months".
I think Drupal should not use the word "member" on this page. This "membership" will likely bear no relation to the user's membership in the organization and is confusing.
I think future Drupal releases should replace the word "member for" with "registered website user for" to be as clear as possible.
Read moreSimple admin aid module idea: Centrally set content type revision defaults
As for most of our sites we want to turn revisions on for all content types, a module (or D7 core patch) to do this from somewhere with a single switch (or checkboxes for all content types in one place) would be nice.
Questions:
* Is there already a module that does this, hiding from my searches?
* Should other per-content-type workflow settings also be centralized?
* Where should centralized settings like this live in the administration menu?
The single biggest usability problem (for the site admin) in Drupal
Excuse the hyperbole, but...
I really think the biggest problem from a designer/developer/admin's perspective is:
Not enough module specificity. By which I meant that module's are not specific (ie small) enough.
I'll illustrate by way of example:
I built an online classified web site (www.bandbswapshop.com), and had some difficulties with one particular aspect. I wanted the admin to be able to create a user and a Classified Ad at the same time.
