There are many Web sites and tools for authoring textbooks: iBooks Author, Flat World Knowledge, etc. Good tech, but there's a fundamental flaw in their specs. They're based on an obsolete view of learning.
Education researchers have shown how we can help students learn STEM skills (STEM: science, tech, engineering and math). Deep learning, formative feedback, other things. We need to redesign authoring software based on these research findings.

September a2Dug: Apache Solr
How do you handle search on large sites like Drupal.org or Economist.com? While Drupal's included search module is sufficient for small sites, it has problems with performance and usability once you get to hundreds or thousands of nodes. Apache Solr is an alternative search system that handles these performance issues and provides user-friendly features like faceted search, content recommendations ("More Like This"), language stemming, and query suggestions ("Did you mean...?").

We are really excited about our June Meetup, June will be a bit different for a couple of reasons. We are going to be celebrating the opening of Commerce Guys’ new office in Ann Arbor by holding our meetup there for June. This will also allow for extended hours with food and drinks onsite as well as space to breakup into four “official” sessions total plus space for breakout conversations if needed. This also marks the 6 month mark since Drupalcamp Michigan, would be a great time to discuss the idea of a second camp in 6 months.
