A group for talking about Drupal distributions.
At DrupalCon Europe 2020, a BoF (Drupal Distributions - Learning from each other - read about the outcomes here) came up with the idea of distribution maintainers meeting and exchanging ideas on a regular basis to learn from each other. In January 2021, the first meeting took place, we collected topics that affect us all and planned the first discussion rounds (read the meeting minutes here).
We want to meet once a month, present our projects to each other, ask questions, discuss possible solutions and thus grow by working together. For planning and sharing purposes, we have adopted this group.
Originally, this group was created as an informal response to Dries' blog entry about potential pitfalls in creating Drupal distribution installation profiles. We still think this is an important topic (of many!) and plan to discuss such questions as well.
The intent of this group is to provide a forum for distribution maintainers to discuss on a very broad scope in the interest of promoting collaboration, cooperation and communication among them. This group is a good place to: announce new projects and the goals behind them, identify common goals and best practices for distributions, and explore options for collaboration and consolidation where possible.
Second release of Eduglu available
Hey Everyone,
The second release of Eduglu is out. I've squashed quite a few bugs so installation and the initial setup should be much smoother now. The other highlight of this release was the upgrade to Spaces 3 & Context 3.

Dries said in his DrupalCon SF keynote there were 19 (I think) distributions available. If I go to:
I see a few listed. Where are the rest? Will drupal.org be the go-to place for all distributions or will it be distributed across the web like the feature servers?

DrupalCon Aegir BOF Scheduled: Mon 4/19 2:45-3:45
We have a room with AV on Mon 4/19 2:45-3:45 Room 206. Please reply here if you have thoughts about the agenda.
If needed I can talk about the UC Berkeley use case anddo an informal demo of stuff I've been working on with Puppet and my Aegir 0.3 "helper" shell scripts like move_db.php and clone_site.sh...
But I'd love it if others propose agenda/discussion items. This is my first DrupalCON BOF so not sure how much organization is needed. Help me out! :-)

Read moreStandardized way to add node content during an install profile execution
Hi all.
I am looking for a standardized way to add contents such as any type of nodes into an installation profile.
Suppose you wanna build an instal profile that creates some pages and a contact form, you have to add this pages as arrays and use a function like node_save to add them into the database. This make the profile file really long or you have to split it into more than one file (but it seems there's no standard way to manage them).
Looking for Alpha Testers for Eduglu, a new Drupal Install Profile for Higher Education
I've been working on a social learning site based on Drupal for the past two years as a student at Brigham Young University and am now working towards readying it for its maiden release into the world as a full-fledged Drupal install profile.
My goal with Eduglu is to:
a) Provide a superb out-of-the-box social learning engine to help departments, clubs, classrooms, and other campus groups communicate, collaborate, and learn with one another.
Transmission Drupal Distribution proposal to Knight News Challenge
Hi all, the Transmission network (http://transmission.cc) has just completed a full proposal to the Knight News Challenge, for a video-focused 'Transmission Drupal Distribution': http://tinyurl.com/txknightdrupal. If we get the $, we will do an open consultation process with Transmission network partners and the Drupal community to determine the modules we will fund development of. Please check out the proposal, rate it up, and if you think you would use this distribution, leave a comment to let Knight know it would be useful! Thanks.

For those of you who understand the German language:
I created a Drupal distribution for creating advanced (German language) homepages. The intention is to enable Drupal newbies to get their first website started more quickly.
Need Install Profile Help
In my install profile, I wrote some code to add the primary menu items after enabling a series of dependent modules. I cannot add menu items until the module paths exist. The problem seems to be timing, my menu code gets executed before all paths exist (after first enabling modules). Any on how to get around this?
Read morePackaged distributions now deployed on drupal.org!
The testing phase is over... 3281d Consulting is extremely pleased to announce that the new distribution packaging system is now deployed on drupal.org. The announcement on the front page of drupal.org contains lots of details about how the system looks for end users of Drupal distributions, including lots of nice UI changes to project pages and release nodes.
If you maintain an installation profile on drupal.org please read the How to package a profile on drupal.org handbook page. It's really not that hard, but there are some very important things you need to read and understand to make use of the new system. Support requests and "bug reports" from people who just didn't read the handbook page won't be well received. ;) Oh, and speaking of issues, if you find one, please search the packaged install profiles tag before submitting a new one.
Exciting times -- go forth, yonder profile maintainers, and make Drupal more usable!
Thanks!
-Derek

Full packaging for installation profiles/distributions on drupal.org ready for testing
In case anyone missed the announcements in Planet Drupal, we're going to have fully packaged installation profiles/distributions on drupal.org. Yay! ;) The system goes live Monday night, 6pm PST. Anyone who's maintaining an installation profile project on drupal.org is strongly encouraged to help test the new system. Full details here:

I don´t know
Hi there, it could be that due of my poor English language skills I didn´t understand enough. But does installation prifiles mean that in the future nobody can get Drupal-Core without an given profile? That would be not such a good idea...
Read moreWhy not make installation profiles full-blown modules in D7?
I really like that in Drupal 7 installation profiles will be treated as modules. However now that I started thinking about actual implementations, I'm wondering why they are not actual modules. For instance with DrupalMU the required modules and settings could be deployed both at the moment of installation as at a later date. The required modules and the function calls however would be identical in both cases. So what do I do? Do I make it a module that has a .module and a .profile file that works when dropped in either the sites/all/modules or in the /profiles directory?

A stripped down version of Open Atrium could serve as a great start for a multi-user blogging platform. Each user could count as a group starting with just the blog feature. Other features could be enabled depending on the requirements of the site. The only thing that would be missing is the option to add custom blocks, or widgets as Buzzr and OnSugar call them.

Read moreDrupal Distribution for Churches
A Drupal Distribution for Churches has been a long time coming. There has been plenty of discussion threads and podcasts regarding this topic.
This page exists for planning purposes. You can add feature suggestions, tutorial links, module suggestions by editing this page directly. From this information a Installation Profile will begin to emerge with the most basic features first and more advance features in the future.
Features should be listed by priority. The most important features should be a the top and the less important features (things most churches could survive without) should be at the bottom.
Current Drupal distibutions available as install profiles are Churches (recently deprecated) and OpenChurch.
