About Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)
Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) is the umbrella group for most of the Drupal activity in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world. We've been bringing more Drupal to more people since 2010, and have as many as 10 meetups and other events dedicated to Drupal topics each and every month.
Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.
The Greater Los Angeles Drupal leadership team endeavors to actively empower and support volunteers and attendees in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and to provide resources (venues, guidance, equipment, raffle prizes, etc.) and an open governance model with consistency, transparency and accountability.

What's different about this group? (?)
In addition to our unique open governance model, GLAD has a different geographic focus than other regional groups. Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010.
GLAD organizers lead a large number of events in the Greater Los Angeles Area, including Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Culver City, Santa Monica, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Riverside and Ventura.
Items here are "new and interesting" based on their number of votes, number of comments, how recently it was posted, etc.

At this meetup, we're having our usual news and announcements, as well as raffle prizes, community Q&A, lightning talks (which are short, bite-sized presentations) and featured presentations. Hi everybody, I have some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that we have literally dozens and dozens of videos of presentations and lightning talks that were recorded at Drupal meetups and conferences throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area. Check them out:
This video collection has had tens of thousands of views. We also have another hundred or so videos of recorded videos from meetups over the past year that just haven't been uploaded yet. I'm pretty sure we have more videos than any other Drupal user group!

We have a new logo for GLAD, our Greater Los Angeles Drupal group!
Update: voting for the name has begun at https://drupal.la/node/34
A couple names have been floating around already and I thought it would be fun to have a naming contest. Once we have a list of name suggestions, we can run a poll and use voting to declare a winner.

This logo is a big step forward for GLAD. We'll be using it for all the print materials for GLADCamp, our upcoming Greater Los Angeles Drupal Camp, as well as on sign-in sheets at our meetups, and everywhere GLAD has an online presence, including Twitter, Google+ and Facebook.
I hope you all enjoy, and let the naming contest begin!

Last Thursday at or monthly meetup we ran out of time. There was much more to talk about, so we decided to get together informally.
We will meet at BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse in Pasadena. This is at the corner of Colorado Blvd and Marengo Ave. We can get some snacks and have general discussions on Drupal for a few hours.
Attendance to the last meetup is not necessary so everyone is welcome to come.

There's Earth Day for the planet and now there's Dries Day for Drupal. To celebrate, we're asking everyone in the community to spend the day on Drupal community projects: plan a camp, do a training, work on modules, push code, write documentation, read about Drupal 8 or whatever you find interesting. This is not a bad price to pay for all the great stuff in Drupal. If you're an employer, we encourage you to give your employees a paid day to work on Drupal.
