About Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)
Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) is the umbrella group for most of the Drupal activity in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world. We've been bringing more Drupal to more people since 2010, and have as many as 10 meetups and other events dedicated to Drupal topics each and every month.
Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.
The Greater Los Angeles Drupal leadership team endeavors to actively empower and support volunteers and attendees in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and to provide resources (venues, guidance, equipment, raffle prizes, etc.) and an open governance model with consistency, transparency and accountability.

What's different about this group? (?)
In addition to our unique open governance model, GLAD has a different geographic focus than other regional groups. Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010.
GLAD organizers lead a large number of events in the Greater Los Angeles Area, including Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Culver City, Santa Monica, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Riverside and Ventura.

We've planned a site visit to Los Angeles Center Studios on April 12, 2012, at 2:30pm, to determine if it will work as the venue for the free Drupal Design Camp conference we're planning. In the tradition of several other site visits that we've gone on, this visit is open to anyone and is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in starting to help organize this event.
Several of us are meeting beforehand at Droplabs, the venue of the High Performance Drupal and Downtown LA Drupal meetups. We will be leaving Droplabs promptly at 2pm. You're welcome to meet us no later than 2pm at Droplabs (where parking is free) or at 2:30pm at LA Center Studios.
Please sign up or comment below if you're interested in joining us as we tour the facilities. Those who sign up will be on this site visit's mailing list. We'll send you our phone number and any last-minute details if there are any.

Bring a camera if you have one.

The High Performance Drupal meetup is meeting again on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Please join us at Droplabs, a Drupal event and coworking space in Downtown Los Angeles, on May 1, 2012.
Our meetups follow a basic format and start off with Drupal news and announcements, local job announcements, breakout sessions, raffle prizes and full-length presentations.
As always, we'll also have community Q&A, during which time anyone in attendance can ask questions, divine answers from the crowd and give brief, 5-10 minute-long presentations known as lightning talks. We'll finish off the night with more networking and a Drupal After Dark at 9:30pm.
The projector and raffle prizes for this event are being provided by Exaltation of Larks, a Drupal strategy, consulting, development and training company with a team of Drupal experts in Los Angeles.
About High Performance Drupal
What is the High Performance Drupal meetup about? The "high performance" part of the name is a catch-all to describe Drupal scalability, performance and benchmarking but we also discuss hosting, infrastructure, deployment, monitoring and highly repeatable processes. Also, this meetup has been held at coffeeshops in the past and the addition of caffeine makes our meetings feel as if they go faster and faster as the night goes on.
This is an meetup that focuses exclusively on advanced topics and there will not be a Users Helping Users portion to the evening.

This evening's tutor is @christefano, one of the developers and architects with Exaltation of Larks. This time block is devoted to you, so bring your questions and homework to work on. The tutor's time is on a first-come, first-served basis.
We're also pleased to announce that watching videos on Build a Module.com is FREE at Droplabs and that we're incorporating a mentored training approach at these open tutoring sessions. Build a Module.com has over 600 videos on Drupal development and site building and there's something for every skill level. Be sure to bring your headphones.
This is the third session for this tutoring series at Droplabs and we welcome your feedback. We'll try to introduce a Users Helping Users concept, so if you're of a certain level, are waiting for an answer, and can help another, please do so!
This event is a fund raiser to benefit Droplabs and has a sliding scale donation of $10-20. No one will be turned away. Donations go directly toward the venue and helping to keep Droplabs free for the community.

| Video: Scaling GRAMMY.com, by Kevin Colligan: http://blip.tv/episode/6224301 |
The High Performance Drupal meetup is meeting again on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Please join us on April 3, 2012 at Filter Digital, a digital solutions agency in Culver City located just two blocks from Media Temple, a familiar venue of Drupal meetups on the Westside.
This meetup features a presentation by Kevin Colligan (@kevincolligan) at The Recording Academy @TRAlosangeles, who will present a case study on GRAMMY.com. He will go through the setup used for GRAMMY.com now to keep it fast and stable — Pressflow and Master/Slave databases, Drupal's built-in cache mechanisms, Akamai and Content Delivery Networks, Varnish load balancing and reverse proxies, Memcache and other tricks — and what they're looking at for the future.
