Marketplace

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Welcome to the Drupal Services Marketplace. This group offers the facility to post requests for resources and services for commercial / enterprise / online application product development / project services based around Drupal for the rest of the world. If Drupal has benefited you or your company, don't forget to contribute to the Drupal Project (2%-5% of your profit earnings) or join the Drupal Association. Continue to build the Drupal project sustaining it out of every project that is commissioned or completed via this group. The idea is to evolve this project idea into a successful Drupal Commercial Services Open Source Community Support and OSS based Commercial Market Development programme.

Disclaimer: I made this Marketplace as a contribution from myself and friend Drupalars so the group doesn't have any direct association with the Drupal Association and we are volunteering to support and raise more contributions for the Drupal Association and Drupal Project to support its continued sustainability! So join in an contribute all Drupalars and to be Drupalars! -- Fouad Bajwa, the always learning and sharing Drupaler!

Are there Drupal Job Descriptions?

I am reading the Druapl job postings. Granted they are from individual work places, but so many say the same thing, but want something different. Drupal designer, developer, themer, engineer, trainer, etc. Add prefixes like senior, junior, UI, front-end, and usability and things really get complicated.

Is a Senior Themer the same as a Junior Designer? I'm sure someone is getting mad at the suggestion, but I would not know the difference by reading some of these job posts.

OpenRFP.net - Web survey project

Hey folks

We've now upgraded our original marketplace idea from this group on Drupal, to a full standalone site: http://OpenRFP.net

I'm mainly focused on Government RFPs to begin with, but any other RFPs can be posted too.

On this note, this one from Ontario government is a candidate for a Drupal solution, let me know if you're interested in co-bidding it:

http://openrfp.net/OntarioBR+E

Cheers, Neil.

UK G-Cloud program

Hey folks

Demonstrating just how visionary we were when we first conceived this group a number of years back, the core idea and structures behind it is now what the UK Government wants to do via their 'G-Cloud' program.

This is to pioneer the adoption of Cloud computing within government, but ultimately the real value driver will come from the extensive reuse of open standards, best practices and software, facilitated by Cloud methods.

I apologize

I would like to offer my sincere apology to the Themer groups here on Groups.Drupal.Org and to this community in general ... I meant no disrespect to anyone. Being a non-artist I have the highest regard for those who can do what I cannot; create beauty in web designs and other visual art forms. Likewise as a programmer I have an equally high regard for all web developers and the difficulty of the work we do.

Question about GPL and NON-PHP Themes

If I build a Theme that uses no PHP or GPL'd JavaScript but does incorporate PERL code in the template would that PERL code need to be GPL'd?

I realize of course this would mean that the hosting installation would have to have PERL enabled on their server (not a normal Drupal setup) but I don't think that is the same as "requiring a 3rd party proprietary program" since PERL is open source and quite common on many hosting services.

GPL group recommends CMS templates be licensed under a different license.

... but templates are a special case, because they are combined with data provided by users of the application and the combination is distributed. So, we recommend that you license your templates under simple permissive terms.

Themes versus Modules

There has been much discussion through the years about the automatic GPL status of Themes and Modules, and I will weigh in on that topic itself in another post (see the bottom of this post). But for now suffice it to say that I see an argument in favor of requiring GPL for Modules but I see a very different and very compelling argument in favor of excluding Themes from the GPL mandate. This post is to address a pre-cursor to that argument ...

Open Government Innovation program

Hello folks

Here is more info on the program mentioned in a previous post.

The headline theme is the 'Open Government Innovation' program, with the role of Drupal explained in my blog of the same name @ http://OpenGovernmentInnovation.com - (Webs 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0).

I will be promoting this concept, and the enabling tools like Drupal, into government clients throughout Canada, the USA and UK amongst others. This will include a conference 'Open Government Canada' (http://OpenGovernmentCanada.com) amongst other marketing activities.

RFPs and other sales activities

Hello folks

Jenny and I first conceived the concept of this Drupal marketplace, and a self-organizing membership supplier group to operate it, a number of years back but got side-tracked for various reasons. (http://groups.drupal.org/node/828)

I'm going to re-start this effort with these same ideals, and modernize it with some new ideas and trends. Most recently I've been focused on Cloud Computing (cloudventures.biz), and will factor some of that in.

Making money using Template Framework or Base Theme for Drupal

Drupal Theme clubs are starting now to get traction. Coming from Wordpress or Joomla they have matured as efficient theme development companies and offer great support for members. Following the discussion of how much a premium drupal theme costs or how to make a theme club http://groups.drupal.org/node/8186 I think the answer is to develop an efficient Theme Development Framework. Without this, you cannot charge as low as 200$ for a Drupal theme, even if all PSD files are existing.

New Drupal Book : Drupal 6 Site Blueprints

<

blockquote>Bad news is always good news for the press. And so Vaughan Pyre has decided to take advantage of this and create a web site that will aggregate bad news and weird happenings from all over the world. The content of the site will be entirely derived from RSS feeds from several sources; each feed being automatically fetched and its items displayed as individual articles on the web site. Vaughan's intention is to create a lot of self-updating web sites which he intends to populate with Google ads for site users to click and click so that he can make a lot of money.

Accordion Blocks module released for Drupal

Folks, we're happy to roll out yet another module for Drupal. It's called “Accordion Blocks”. As the name says, this module provides an accordion effect to all your blocks. You can also apply jQuery UI themes through the configuration settings of the module.

This block is for those of you who deploy apps with a lot of blocks on either side bars, and are looking for newer usability enhancements with regards to visibility of the blocks. It not only minimizes all blocks on a Drupal page, but provides a cool accordion effect to help your user to concentrate on a single block at a time.
