NJIT Meetup / Camp Offer
Hi Guys,
I have a good deal worked out with my work (NJIT) to host meetups on a regular basis and provide lab space. My work is interested in providing paid training at some point, but the offer of hosting Meetups or camps is genuine and free. The meetup offer is an attempt for the university to support open source technology / projects, since we use a lot of them on campus.

Because many people will be away, I am not organizing an August meetup for central NJ. Obviously, anyone who feels so motivated can organize one.
For September I plan to pick a date for a meetup that will be the week after Drupalcon Paris. Obviously we will want some time to discuss developments at Drupalcon, but we could potentially have another focus as well. Please comment if you have suggestions or are willing to present something.
Past suggestions for topics can be found at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/20931

I have successfully set up a Multisite Drupal installation with debugging capabilities that allow you to step into Drupal's running code one step at a time. This is set up on WampServer, Eclipse and Xdebug on a Vista platform. This setup is documented at http://sites.google.com/site/drupaldebugmultisite/. Please visit this site and add a comment letting me know if you succeeded in setting up this installation using the detailed instructions that are given.

"How to get involved with and contribute to the Drupal project"
Meet-up in central NJ for the New Jersey Drupal group. To be held at the Institute for Advanced Study. Note earlier-than-previous starting time. Please chip-in to get some pizza or other food.
Getting involved with the Drupal project (i.e. drupal.org, the Drupal core code, Drupal documentation, Drupal support, etc.) is a great way to both expand your own expertise and to build relationships and credibility in the Drupal community. This meet-up will focus on the ways that anyone from the very newest user to a seasoned developer can get make valuable contributions.

Meetup topics and formats
The Central NJ meetup was last night. I think things went reasonably well. Regarding the issue of topics and format, please provide your thoughts. Some people seem to prefer presentations, others don't. There were suggestions of multiple short presentations per meeting, or multiple topics per meeting. I'm sure everyone has their own opinions about what to do, and how to do it, so please provide them. Things won't improve if there isn't feedback. Critiques for the last two meetings are also welcome.

Topics for future central NJ meet-ups
We had a very enjoyable meetup this past Tuesday - 14 people came representing educational instutions, companies, consultants, local political groups, and themselves!
The discussion went strong for about two and half hours, and one of the later topics was possible timing and topics for future meetups.
The timing for future meetups was suggested as once per month or once per two months. If they are more frequent, meetups may be more casual and unstructured, while others might have a more focused program.
Among the suggestions (in no special order):
Read moreAre you ready for a MADCamp?
In the months since we successfully pulled off the first Philly Area DrupalCamp (PADCamp) we have had some discussions (most recently at DrupalCon) about whether we should focus on throwing another PADCamp, or whether we should try to work with our neighbors to the North and South of Philly to create a Mid-Atlantic DrupalCamp (MADCamp). I don't have the specific numbers, but at the PADCamp there were tons of people from New York City, Washington DC, Harrisburg, and lots of places in between, so to some degree it was already a MADCamp. What I'd like to try to see for this Camp is a little more regional cooperation and outreach, so I'm curious to know whether anyone from the DC, Maryland, Central PA, NJ, or NYC groups would be interested in helping to make this a reality.
I am proposing that we have the first MADCamp in Philly, due to it's central location on the East Coast and the fact that the Philly group is trying to move the idea forward. However, I'm personally open to hearing ideas for hosting it in other cities, and one of the bigger goals I would have for the Camp is to get more regional cooperation and coordination amongst the groups. I attend NYC DrupalCamps and DC BarCamps (don't think there's been a DC DrupalCamp- has there?), and I've seen many of the same faces at many of these events.
So, if we're going to move forward with this idea, here are some things that need to be decided:

We will meet in the Rockefeller residential college classroom (in Madison hall). See below for map and more details.

There are a larger and larger group of people that seem to be interested in Drupal in Northern NJ and I will discuss further this evening if we will start having Northern NJ Drupal meetups. I was initially going to start a North Jersey group here on G.D.O.
