Can you believe this marks our last meeting of the year?!! It's been a great year! make sure to check out our LA meeting Archives. We've got the latter half of our meetings online. We're shooting to start streaming live meetings and we're already lining up some great stuff for us next year! ...there's A TON going on with Drupal. plus if the economy stays soft... my prediction is the future is very strong for open source and Drupal!
Topics
Tonight, Tuesday the 16th, from 7pm-9:30pm, LA Drupal will be host to a night presentation on the Organic Groups module, aka "OG," which allows Drupal sites to setup groups that users can join and subscribe to. Come tonight to ask questions about this module and more.
We will also be offering open-mic opportunities through the night to ask Drupal questions during our wonderful meeting segment, "Ask the LA Drupal Community." Need to just ask another human a Drupal question? Then this is that chance.
Plus...
To close off the night we will have freebies, networking chatter time, job announcements, and a retrospective look at LA Drupal throughout 2008... and how 2009 is shaping up to be.

December - YES! November??
Should be along for the December meeting - but is there one for the end of November (ie, tomorrow night), 25 Nov) pre-Turkey? Can find no reference to such a meeting, so I'm assuming there isn't one.

The November meeting was last week due to TG this week.

Topic Request- Organic Groups
I would be interested in hearing about Organic Groups. This would be an interesting beginning topic, and I know some of you guys have lots of experience using this module. :-)
If anyone is interested, I'm
If anyone is interested, I'm happy to co-present and answer questions about OG.
Lets Roll
Ill be there.
Anyone got experience using groups and goggle maps?
It's been a while since I've made it down for an LA meetup. Will try and carpool down with two or three new members. Would love to get some pointers on creating taxonomy controlled maps using og+views+gmap+location to do what one would hope are some pretty simple things (e.g. without coding). I seem to have trouble getting the right filter / argument /relationship combo that does not result in an error message from views. Looking forward to seeing some old friends!

How are you using arguments
How are you using arguments and filters for the taxonomy terms? As far as I can tell, OG, GMap and Location pretty much ignore taxonomy.
The business locator site I'm building is using OG and the new versions of Location and GMap. It's not taxonomy-based, though, which bothers me a little. I think locative functionality should have tight integration with core's taxonomy from the start and might rebuild the site around Ben's Place module when it's updated to work with Location 3.
Haven't even gotten to the taxonomy part yet
Still trying just to get views to make a map consisting of nodes with location from a organic group. Seems like there are two possible approaches for the view in D6. Either group or node based. Both seem to lead me to either error messages from views sql from missing fields. I'll grab some screen snaps and share.
Thanks for responding.

Chasing Drupal developers
I am an entrepreneur in the process of building a rather complicated Drupal website and thought this would be a great opportunity for me to learn a bit more about Drupal. I've been working with offshore freelance developers so far but I find myself constantly chasing developers who are spreading themselves thin over too many projects. Maybe I can find some quality people here...
What is written without effort is in general read without pleasure.
Drupal Consulting Needed
I would like some hourly help to learn and deploy Drupal on a project. I'm a Flex expert looking for Drupal assistance. Here is what I'm looking for;
A consultant that knows everything about basic setup and can give top line advice. No major advanced topics. Looking for these skills; install drupal, configure a flex app from scratch to connect to drupal backend via AMFPHP using a CUSTOM content type (CCK module). Mapping a custom class from php to as3 is a nice-to-have. The candidate should be able to complete the above in a very basic 'demo' in 1-4 hours.
Hopefully cya folks tonite
Though it might be tough for me to make it out this month.
Any idea what topics are on the docket? It seems maybe Organic Groups for the Beg/Int. topic & maybe Markus´ conundrum for the Int/Adv. topic?
I´d like to have my barrage of questions prepared ahead of time. =P
Tonight's Topic
That would be fun to hear more about Markus' project with OG. Would it be fun to have a group discussion/brainstorm about it? I'd love to hear more about it. Sounds interesting.
Nicole Bluto :-)
See ya toinght!
OGs Please!
If there's anyone with some expertise in OGs I'd love to hear any snippets tonight. Hope to be along a bit later (7.30 ish).

Year in review and goals for '09
Might be good revisit some of the agenda points we talked about at the beginning of the year and see if we can plot a course for next year. From the amazing turnout from Drupalcon to more and more new people showing up to our meetups, I think we have some great opportunities for a wide range of networking, classroom, and project oriented activities. Check out the wiki here and feel free to add to it or comment -
