Would anyone like to get together on chartering a private plane to San Francisco or Oakland for BADCamp next month?
A good friend of mine flies on a private plane from Los Angeles to San Francisco a few times a month and she just pays for her share of the fuel. The cost comes to about the same as a regular commercial flight, but flying privately is more convenient for her and it's much faster since there's no airport security to go through. I need to find out how many seats are on the plane she flies on.
The other option I'm looking at is Social Flights, a site that puts groups of people together (called "travel tribes") to go to events like ski trips in Vail, New Years in Times Square, etc. I've signed up for the site, joined the Los Angeles and San Francisco tribes and have started contacted others on the site about flights around the time BADcamp is happening.
If you're going to BADcamp and are interested in this idea, post a comment below.

Depnds on the details
I would e interested in this depending on timing. My ain issue is that I would need to rent a car with others once I am there i I fly so that also comes to mind as I would like to be fairly mobile while at the camp. But it sounds like a lot of fun so I am +1 and am subscribing.
Flight share maybe. What about drive and room share?
Any interest in room sharing? I did note the hotels listed only had 1 queen bed, but I'm sure 2 bed rooms, or suites might be available. I do have friends in the area, and I will be contacting them, though I'd rather a walk to the conference, even if 1 mile or more.

I'm interested
I (and my family) might be interested, depending on the timing and the cost. We'd probably want to go up a day early. Like Steve, we'd probably need a car for at least some of the days.
I might be interested as well
I might be interested as well though I'm not wholly sure yet. I'm going to be passportless for a short amount of time which would mean I likely can't fly and it would be nice to have a car while there.
I'm a +1, possibly +2 for this
Yay living the pimp life.

My friend flies for $160 each way
My friend flies for $160 each way and there are a total of 4 seats on the plane.
It's hard to compete on price with the big carriers when we're talking about flying from one major airport to another. I've learned that when it comes to price that private flights are definitely not cost-effective unless flying to or from smaller airports.
At this point I'm thinking of flying commercial. Southwest has nonstop flights from LAX to SFO for $59 and Virgin has return flights for $49. I'm still interested in flying private and am looking at other private operators. I'll post here in the next day or two.
Private flights
Just chiming in on the private flight issue. I used to run a charter business. We chartered jets and helicopters. There is no way that you can ever get the price down to what the major carriers charge. The math is not there. What you get for flying private is convenience. The ability to park your car 200 feet from where you get on the plane, and go on your schedule.
To put things in perspective . . . planes are measured in how many gallons of fuel it burns an hour, not miles per gallon. Most jets burn in the range of 250-300 gallons per hour.
Your comment has been really
Your comment has been really helpful. Cost was an issue but weight restrictions were a problem, too, interestingly enough.
Commercial it is, at least this time. We're flying to SFO on Wednesday the 19th on Virgin America #933 and are returning Tuesday the 25th on Virgin America #932. Price was $49 each way.
I'll look into this again in 6 months for DrupalCon Denver. A few of us at Droplabs have already been ruminating about renting a bus and paying a driver.
forgive if posted in wrong place
How do you block posts/ppl? I found I could only subscribe then indicate a week notice so maybe this will lower the feed rate for posts less critical to me. Are there better ways to control what you get and when?
There aren't any tools
There aren't any tools for blocking people's messages here on groups.drupal.org, but you could filter your email for specific patterns. That's what I do for some posts from people.
There are notification preferences you can set, though. In the case of your account, go to http://groups.drupal.org/user/124078/edit and scroll down to the messaging and notifications fieldset. You can, for example, change the default send interval to something else (like weekly).
When joining a new group, you become automatically signed up for email notifications from that group unless you uncheck the "automatically subscribe to new groups I join" checkbox. Check out http://groups.drupal.org/user/124078/notifications where you can fine-tune some settings.
ps. This discussion thread isn't the best place for this, so if you have more questions about it you can hop on IRC and ask in the #drupal, #drupal-support or #drupal-groups channels. If you prefer talking with people face to face, come to any of our meetups or come by Droplabs, a shared workspace created by and for the LA Drupal community. Drupaleros can work alongside one another for free (similar to a cafe or library but with more of an office environment) and I can't tell you how much time people have saved just by asking the group how to solve a problem.
