Hi organizers,

Is anyone interested in a Drupal Design Camp LA conference for next year? It hasn't been officially announced or scheduled on the calendar yet, but if next year's DDCLA is anything like the one we had earlier this year it would be some time in February.

This year's Drupal Design Camp LA brought a lot of new people to LA Drupal and introduced them to Drupal theming, design, typography and usability, and I think the conference was a success. I'd love to have another one next year, but due to lack of time I'm not up for doing a lot of planning or organizing.

I can help with some planning and organizing, though:

  1. Providing insights, vendor contacts, etc. from this year's conference
  2. Being one of the organizers and helping with logistics on the days of the conference
  3. Offering a venue at Droplabs for planning meetings, website sprints, etc.
  4. Attending the conference and having a great time!

I intend to be at the LA Drupal meetup at Media Temple this Tuesday, but it's possible that I'm staying in the Bay Area for a few days after BADCamp for meetings and such. If you're planning to be at the meetup and you're interested in talking about DDCLA at the meetup, please comment below or join the conversation on the ladrupal-organizing mailing list.

Thanks!

There's even talk about a second Drupal Everywhere event.

Oliver & I have started some

Oliver & I have started some preliminary discussions & we think we're on the right track to making this a successful event. We'll be announcing more (& VERY exciting!) details shortly.

In the meantime, if there's more folks out there interested in helping to co-organize the event, we'd welcome you with open arms. This is a community event, we LOVE giving back to this great Drupal community &, as such, would love to hear your thoughts on how to make this another kickass event. This is an event by YOU & for you. We welcome participation of all kinds.

Background image Book Title is what???

bvirtual's picture

I like camping theme, the binoculars, compass, spade, map case, etc. Yogi and Bogey are so very, very huggable!

Just to be on the safe side, the book in the background image has a title I can not resolve without running my copy of the popular FBI resolution enhancement software. It's not a commie plot, is it? ;*)

I heard a rumor

I heard a rumor that the book title is "Drupal Handbook." I may or may not have a copy of that ever so popular "Enhance Resolution!" software.

Very Nice

The organizers of Drupal

The organizers of Drupal Design Camp 2012 would like to thank the crew over at Stauffer for their generous offer of donating this year's site design. We studied all available options thoroughly & finally decided on the donation from Mike Land of We Are Landing.

We ultimately decided on wanting to build atop this year's DrupalCamp LA code base since it was so far along & the DCLA2012 site launch was a success. We really liked the design aspects & when Mike told us there were other powerful features that were still under the hood, we were sold! Additionally, by building atop this current code base, we can improve upon it (or bring forth some other, hidden features) & then, in turn, kick those improvements back out to the Drupal community for other camps to enjoy. Additionally, Mike went out of his way to reach out to us & be involved in the planning process via conference calls & such.

My apologies if this is a bit long. Since Stauffer made their offer early on, I just wanted to make sure that we gave them a proper thank you.

Location?

BTMash's picture

Has a location been decided? I'd offered that CalArts might be willing to host the event. I'd never heard a yes or no regarding the location (which I can understand since it isn't the most accessible place but there is lots of parking and a fair bit of space since the students will be gone on vacation) and neither has any of the staff on campus.

Hello Ashok & many thanks for

Techivist's picture

Hello Ashok & many thanks for offering up CalArts as a potential venue for DDCLA 2012! We went on many site visits & one of the things that we really wanted to focus on was making DDCLA as accessible to commuters & out-of-towners as last year's event. While I'm a huge proponent of having camps at universities, building those partnerships & everyone benefiting from the symbiotic nature of that relationship, it's not always feasible. CalArts would've been a perfect venue, in my eyes, if only it were a bit closer to LA proper.

As all of us who have helped organize camp events of any sort know, having a great venue is key. Having a design camp at a university focused on artistic endeavors is perfect in so many ways. Sadly, the distance provides a very real obstacle. However, I do have some ideas on how to overcome that & would love to chat with you about them in regards to future camps.

Again, Ashok, thanks a TON for the generous offer!!!

Good news, DrupalCampers.

christefano's picture

Good news, DrupalCampers. During Friday's open conference call, the DDCLA team has unanimously decided to go forward with io/LA. We're booking the venue for 3 days of awesome on October 12, 13 & 14.

With io/LA's focus on tech, its affinity with Droplabs as a coworking space and business accelerator, and its location in a vibrant corner of Hollywood with shops, restaurants and hotels, we feel this is a good fit for the event.

Much work has already been done but there's much left to do between now and October, 2012. We hope that anyone interested in joining forces will be part of the upcoming planning meetings and website sprints.

Stay tuned to http://groups.drupal.org/dtla and http://ddcla.org for news. We'll also be discussing next steps at the Downtown Los Angeles Drupal meetup next week: http://groups.drupal.org/node/241483
