Each breakout session is led by a volunteer who picks the topic, picks the space and can optionally report back to the larger group in the form of an announcement or lightning talk.

This is also an opportunity for Users Helping Users, which is a participant-driven format where members of the community give and receive help with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal.

Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bona fide consulting from a Drupal professional that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!

Following a great discussion

christefano's picture

Following a great discussion about increasing attendance at remote meetups, we're going to continue broadcasting this meetup via WebEx:

   http://groups.drupal.org/node/280138#join-online

For those who can make it in person this time, we'll have a happy hour again upstairs at Takami and we look forward to seeing you there:

   http://groups.drupal.org/node/280138#drupal-happy-hour

The discussion about attendance at remote meetups is far from over! Please add your voice either here or at the original discussion:

Tony mentioned on Twitter

christefano's picture

Tony mentioned on Twitter that it would be helpful if we had reliable URLs for our web conferences. Thanks, Tony! Twitter is limited to 140 characters, so here's a longer response.

The URL and password for joining our WebEx meetings are usually in the "join us!" section. For this meetup, the section is under Join us on WebEx and Twitter:

   http://groups.drupal.org/node/280138#join-online

The WebEx URL in that section is stable and remains the same from meetup to meetup. When they do change, I try to let everyone know.

(The only time the URL changed since we started using WebEx was with the High Performance Drupal Meetup in August, 2012, and in that case we just posted the new URL in the comments and started our featured presentations about 30 minutes behind schedule.)

All that being said, there have been a lot of great ideas and suggestions in the other discussion on how to increase remote attendance. Time permitting, I'll follow up on the subject in that discussion:

   http://groups.drupal.org/node/275088

For me this meetup will start

aaki's picture

For me this meetup will start at 4 am. Hopefully I'll be able to concentrate! :)
Anyways, looking forward to it!

If I had a free wish I'd be glad to hear something about Drupal's scalability, possibilities to share sessions in a cluster , caching pages for authenticated users.

It will be great to see you!

christefano's picture

It will be great to see you! We always broadcast and record the featured presentations, but due to all the usual logistics we may not be able to adequately record high-end audio for the entire meetup. The featured presentations begin at 8pm Pacific.

If we don't have any high performance presentations this time, we'll certainly have them at next month's High Performance Drupal meetup. That will be on February 19th and it will also be broadcasted and recorded via WebEx.

Thanks again to all the

Thanks again to all the companies and individual sponsors who are actively supporting Drupal in Los Angeles and sponsored this week's Drupal job fair!

   • CivicActions, KWALL, Achieve Internet, MJD Interactive, Exaltation of Larks, FilterDigital and Blake Senftner

We'll be having another one of these soon we'd love to have feedback from job seekers as well as employers regarding their experience. We'll be sending out an email shortly with a link to our survey.

If there's interest, I can

If there's interest, I can give a brief report of how this week's Drupal job fair went, as well as the first-ever Drupal jobs summit that we had afterward:

   Drupal Jobs Summit

I'm planning a few blog posts and would love to hear questions from both job seekers and employers so that I can cover as much as possible in those posts.

I'm really excited about

Thanks for the reminder, Lee!

christefano's picture

Thanks for the reminder, Lee! I've posted a separate announcement for happy hour:

   http://groups.drupal.org/node/281138

For everyone who already knew about happy hour, I'm sorry for the separate announcement. I really want everyone who came to our meetup last time but didn't know that we're doing happy hour again.

Presentations and Lightning Talks

christefano's picture

With all the excitement around GLADCamp, I almost forgot to mention that the DrupalCamp planning meeting is just one portion of tonight's event.

We'll have plenty of time for raffle prizes, news and announcements, and presentations and lightning talks!

Does anyone have a topic they'd like to see (or offer to give) a presentation on?

Notes and Resources

christefano's picture

Here are a few notes and relevant links from last night's meetup. If I missed anything, please post them!

Many thanks to everyone who attended! In particular, thanks to James and Sensis Agency for hosting us, and to Norman for bringing audio equipment.

Mo at Droplabs was an organizing sponsor and Exaltation of Larks was the technical sponsor, parking sponsor and raffle prize sponsor. Larks also provided food and drinks at Takami before the meetup. (Thanks, Groupon!)

Last but not least, thanks to Solomon for his first installment in his series of presentations on mapping with Drupal using some homebrewed Google Places integration.

News and Announcements

Introduction to Drupal Workshop on Friday
   https://sandcamp.org/mob-programming

This workshop is a donation-based fundraiser for Droplabs and is a good opportunity for project managers and business owners who have little or no experienece with Drupal. It's being taught by Lee at Exaltation of Larks.

   Mentored Drupal Training on Friday
   https://sandcamp.org/mob-programming

At the same time as the intro workshop, I'll be providing a mentored training using Build a Module.com videos and filling any gaps with other mentoring and curriculum from other resources.

Drupal Coworking Friday on… you guessed it, Friday
   http://groups.drupal.org/node/280958

Another free coworking day hosted by Droplabs! We have "library rules" and everyone is welcome to drop by, enjoy our space, use Droplabs' high-speed WiFi, equipment (displays, external keyboards, etc.) and office services for getting work done, having meetings, etc.

High Performance Drupal Meetup on February 19, 2013
   http://groups.drupal.org/high-performance

There are several upcoming meetups in the Los Angeles area, and one that came up is the High Performance Drupal Meetup. This meetup has moved to the 3rd Tuesday of each month (from the 1st, which the Downtown Drupal Meetup now occupies) and this month we'll be meeting from 7-9pm at Filter Digital in Culver City.

Mapping with Drupal

During Solomon's presentation, I was manning the WebEx and Twitter coverage of the event. Could someone fill out this section with more links? Here are a few to get it started.

SANDCamp Debrief

   "Mob Programming" session at SANDCamp
   https://sandcamp.org/mob-programming

Llewellyn Falco's session on Mob Programming was a high point for many people at SANDCamp, including myself (I was teaching a class during Llewellyn's session and couldn't make it!). Nate talked about his company's success with it so far, and we're looking into how to incorporate parts of it into our public and corporate Drupal trainings at Exaltation of Larks.

"How Digital Agencies Use Drupal" session at SANDCamp
   https://sandcamp.org/how-digital-agencies-use-drupal-development-profit-pm

James, a technical project manager at Sensis Agency, gave a session on how digital agencies use Drupal. Unfortunately, I missed this one, as well. See https://sandcamp.org/how-digital-agencies-use-drupal-development-profit-pm for a description and for James' presentation slides.

"Frontend Performance & Scalability" session at SANDCamp
   https://sandcamp.org/drupal-frontend-performance-scalability

Website performance is a passion of mine and I presented at SANDCamp this time on Frontend Performance. My slides are available at https://sandcamp.org/drupal-frontend-performance-scalability for the benefit (and amusement) of anyone who's interested.

During the meetup, we quickly reviewed photos Lee took during our first site visit to THH (Mark Taper Hall of the Humanities) in November.

   GLADCamp issue tracker:
   http://drupal.org/project/issues/gladcamp

Anyone can get involved with the planning of our inaugural GLADCamp conference. This is your conference and there are a few dozen tasks that we've identified already, from speaking to potential sponsors and presenters to hosting and re-theming the conference website.
