About Greater Los Angeles Drupal ^

With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world.

Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010, and now organize a large number of events in the area. Our signature events include the Drupal Job Fairs and the Downtown Drupal, Frontend Drupal and High Performance Drupal meetups.

Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.

Attending Drupal events in the Greater Los Angeles Area is one of the best ways to meet and talk with other Drupaleros and we encourage you to attend as many meetings and special events as you'd like. Whether it's to find solutions to problems you've been having, sharing something you've learned or just meeting interesting like-minded people, the Greater Los Angeles Drupal events are an essential resource for Drupal professionals and hobbyists alike.

Due to some last-minute

Due to some last-minute shuffling, we're moving the Downtown Drupal Meetup on August 6th to a snazzy, new coworking space in Little Tokyo named Opodz:

Happy Hour

Hey all,

We're excited to host the event with such a great group of people! Before the event, we'll be, literally, right across the street at Spitz to grab a few drinks and some food.

Please come and join and hope to see everyone there!

Thanks, John! Welcome to the community. I'll see you before the meetup at 5pm for happy hour.

Last call for presentation requests!

Does anyone have any offers to present? Are there any presentation requests?

I'll be presenting a short talk on performance and scalability. We've been performing a lot of Drupal performance and best practices audits recently and I have a few tips and tricks I can share with everyone.

The Droplabs shuttle is about

The Droplabs shuttle is about to leave for Little Tokyo. If anyone wants a ride to tonight's Downtown Drupal Meetup, be sure to be at Droplabs no later than 5pm. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who came

Thanks to everyone who came out to the meetup last night, and especially to Opodz for hosting us at the last minute. I really like Opodz' location, as it's very accessible by everyone in both the Downtown Los Angeles area as well as the San Gabriel Valley (Little Tokyo is right on the Gold Line).

The biggest surprise of the evening for me was that an overwhelming majority of attendees came from the San Gabriel Valley. I heard there was a mini-meetup on the train while on the way to Little Tokyo!

As promised, here are the 3 big takeaways I wanted everyone to have at the end of last night's performance presentation:

  1. Turn on your caching! That includes the standard Drupal page cache and also your caching for your views;
  2. If you have access to your web server, use both Google PageSpeed and SPDY. They're about as "set it and forget it" as it gets, and they offer huge performance benefits;
  3. Run YSlow on your site and do everything you can to get an "A" letter grade. Everyone likes getting an A, right?

Here's a link to the slides I used:

If anyone has any feedback on the presentation or the slides, please let me know. Thanks!

Gold Line SGV Drupal meetup?

fejn's picture

As mentioned above, several of us continued to talk Drupal on the train after the meetup (after discussing) the Gold Line route. Maybe with this kind of attendance we could persuade MTA to host the next GLAD meeting in the transportation tower (above Union Station; they might want to present on how they are making the riding experience better through the use of mobile offerings and apps; we could counter with a presentation on how they could do a lot of things they currently offer more easily and better by using Drupal to drive their offerings.

The (informal) SGV Drupal meetupcovered a several subjects (all related, although it may not look like it at first glance):
1. Drupal in India
2. Drupal for non-profits(Open Outreach distro in particular)
3. Drupal profiles (largely as a means of developing a site, & being able to rebuild that site once it is ready for production
4. Drush generate-makefile
