Presentation Details

Join us Tuesday February 11th, 2014 for a big night of Drupal.

We will hear from Matt Cheney about Pantheon and Helior Colorado about Drupal 8.

All Things Pantheon

Pantheon is a take-your-breath-away Drupal development
and hosting platform which uses cutting edge technology (containers,
cloud, dashboard) to empower Drupal developers everywhere to build,
launch, and run amazing Drupal website. Built from the ground up by
Drupal developers for Drupal developers, Pantheon currently hosts over
30,000 Drupal websites and has some industry leading features
(Multidev, Launch Check, Distribution Support, Pantheon One). This
presentation will talk about the magic that is Pantheon and show off
some of the best parts of the platform.

Matt is a long time Drupal developer who co-founded both Pantheon
Systems (a Drupal platform service) and Chapter Three (a design and
development shop). He is an active Drupal event organizer (Drupalcon
San Francisco, BADCamp) and contributor to Panels, including being the
maintainer of Panopoly. A librarian by training, Matt believes in the
power of (organized) information and thinks that open source content
management solutions like Drupal are great ways for individuals to
share their ideas and passions with the world.

What’s new in Drupal 8: Core modules

Sure, there's been a lot of talk about the sweeping changes in the underlying technology behind Drupal, but what about the new higher-level functionality that now comes packaged with Drupal?

Helior Colorado will introduce you to new core modules that have been added to Drupal 8. You'll learn what these new modules are, what their primary functions are, and how to configure them to work together.

Meetup Info

Users Helping Users and open Q&A

The general meetup begins at 7:00pm but the doors open a little earlier for Users Helping Users, which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal. Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bonafide consulting from a Drupal professional that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!

Lightning talks

There will be no time for lightning talks at this meetup.

Job announcements

At the beginning of each meetup LA Drupal provides an opportunity for local businesses to make job announcements and ask for referrals and recommendations.

Raffle! Prizes! Collect them all!

We love our sponsors and have several raffle prizes from our sponsors in the Los Angeles area and around the world. If you or your company would like to sponsor a raffle prize at the LA Drupal meetups, please come early or contact the LA Drupal managers.

Breakout Groups

As we've occasionally done, if there's time we'll split up into groups (sometimes called BoFs, or birds of a feather) and each group can jump into a particular topic that's set at the beginning of the meetup. The topics for these BoFs so far have ranged from high performance websites, Features-driven development, PCI compliance and general "getting started" discussions.

What to bring

Bring a co-worker, maybe your laptop or tablet, but definitely bring your business cards for networking. We do a lot of networking!

Hi everyone,

I am looking forward to this evening. I wanted to reminder to you that we have two presentations tonight so the meetup will start promptly at 7PM with News and Job Announcements. Please be on time. If you come in late do your best to quietly find a seat.

Thanks,
Steve

We ran out of time tonight

We ran out of time tonight for Q&A with Matt from Pantheon, so I'd like to ask my question here.

If Pantheon doesn't have cloud hooks, what about GitHub's webhooks? My understanding is that Pantheon's Git repos are all stored on GitHub. Is support for that planned for a future Pantheon feature release?

Hey Everyone! I had a great time talking about Drupal 8 with you guys, I hope you found it helpful! If you're interested, here's a link to the slides I used during the prez http://helior.github.io/drupal-8-core-modules-presentation
