Those who would like to attend remotely are welcome to join us via webcast.

We have a killer lineup this month and are having a GLADCamp 2015 announcement and discussion, an encore presentation of Better Sleep Through Web Security and another Drupal Show & Tell.

Are you new to Drupal or the Downtown Drupal meetup? Come learn about Drupal and how others like yourself are using it for their project, business or organization. We promise not to talk down to you.

Presentations

Do you have a presentation or job announcement that you'd like to share with the group? Is there a topic about anything you'd like to see a presentation on? Post a comment below to let all the organizers and attendees know what you're interested in. Lightning Talks — brief, 5-minute long presentations on any topic related to Drupal — are very welcome.

GLADCamp and SCALE 13x Announcement and Discussion

GLADCamp, which this year was held at the Hilton Pasadena & Convention Center, has joined forces with SCALE, the Southern California Linux Expo, and is during the February 19-22 mega conference.

That's right, we're bringing Drupal to the biggest volunteer-run open-source software conference in the country our sister event is during the February 19-22 mega conference. To provide the best program we can and bring Drupal to thousands of SCALE attendees, we're going to need your help! Come learn what this all means and how you can get involved.

Better Sleep Through Web Security

Only local images are allowed. Christefano Reyes presents Better Sleep Through Web Security, an in-depth overview of web security, what to do do if your website is hacked, and how to sleep better by following basic web security best practices.

The "Drupalgeddon" vulnerability has been covered in mainstream news including Forbes, the BBC and The Register, and has brought web security, frequently an overlooked part of web development, back to the center stage.

This particular vulnerability, officially known as SA-CORE-2014-005, allows attackers with specialized knowledge to send requests to any unprotected Drupal website that result in arbitrary SQL execution, which in turn may lead to privilege escalation, arbitrary PHP execution and total server control.

Topics that will be covered in this presentation include:

  • Security vs. Privacy
  • Common Attack Vectors
  • Drupal's security record and the Drupal Security Team
  • SA-CORE-2014-005 (also known as "Drupalgeddon")
  • I've Been Hacked! Now What?
  • Best Practices for Helping Others and Yourself
  • Resources
  • Questions / Answers

Christefano is one of the founders of Exaltation of Larks, a Drupal design and engineering firm with a worldwide team of Drupal experts; and Droplabs, an open source-friendly coworking space and business incubator near Downtown Los Angeles. As an advocate of open source software and self-declared meetup junky, he helps organize meetups and conferences all over the Greater Los Angeles Area, including the Los Angeles Chess meetup and LA Geek Dinners.

Lightning Talks

At this meetup we're having another Drupal Show & Tell. After some quick introductions and light news and announcements, we'll be going into 5-minute presentations (called lightning talks) on the projects that each person is working on. We won't be able to get to everyone, but everyone who attends will be expected to present on something.

Did you recently attend a great Drupal or tech event that you want to tell us about? Are you currently having a problem that you need help with? Did you solve a problem recently and now have a solution to share with the group? You'll have up to 5 minutes to present and then up to 5 more minutes for Q&A with the other attendees. We'll be using a chess clock to make sure that everyone has enough time.

Our meeting starts promptly at 7pm, so if you're somewhere nearby for happy hour please be sure to request your check along with your food order.

For any changes to our agenda for the evening, stay tuned to this meetup announcement or click the Sign up button below (or both!) to be notified when the agenda has been updated.

Lightning Talk on Confident Captcha module

joe_pixelrow's picture

If time permits I am happy to give a quick lightening talk about the Confident CAPTCHA module. It has succeeded in completely stopping contact form spam on hundreds of my websites where image CAPTCHA, Mollom and other modules I tried were only partially effective.

Acquia Shield

I just learned the technical details of how Acquia responded to Drupalgeddon and will be sure to mention them at tonight's meetup.
