The general meetup begins at 7:00pm but the doors open a little earlier for Users Helping Users, which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal. Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bonafide consulting from a Drupal professional that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!

The topics for these BoFs so far have ranged from high performance websites, Features-driven development, PCI compliance and general "getting started" discussions.

Great meetup last night!
First off, a huge thanks to everyone that made it out to the meetup - lots of old and new faces so this was a lot of fun. The energy in the room was fantastic and I really believe this is going to be our best year!
Steve talked about the various events that are coming up:
Burbank Study Group is meeting up on Monday, Jan 26. This month, there will be mob programming and it will be a group lesson on creating a Drupal 8 module -- https://groups.drupal.org/node/453643
We had a few job announcements and also talked that the jobs board has moved from the group site to its own brand new site - https://jobs.drupal.org. While it is now a pay service, the jobs are finally listed in one central location making it much easier for employers to make their listings (and for everyone else to look for positions).
Ashok did a brief walkthough on Configuration Management in Drupal 8. We mentioned that the 'Active' configuration directory is really a relic of how things were set up before and the Active configuration is now in the database. The 'Staging' configuration directory is what is looked at on a given site by default. You can also create your own differently named configuration directories so each of your team members could get their very own namespaced config directory (which you could merge into staging/whatnot - we will get some very interesting workflows out of this). Please post any questions / comments on the presentation below.
Steve did an excellent overview of REST in Drupal 8. Key points that I saw:
Aside from the basic auth module that comes in core for helping test that performing an action with credentials works, you will most likely want to use the OAuth module as it is more secure. Your meet-up notes are totally above and beyond and I wanted to say thank you. There are some great topics in here so thank you for letting others know a little about what we are doing every 2nd Tuesday of the month!
I wanted to take the reigns and press on anyone reading to come forward with "how to" topics that people from our group can essentially take a few minutes to prep and then show how they would approach the problem...I am personally thinking views
-Creating a views page display, block display, other formats like json and xml displays
-Creating view field overrides in the UI
-Adding data from a related table (Relationships)
-Creating dynamic view using Arguments
-Using templates to theme a view, a specific display override for the base tpl, a field tpl, etc...
-Showing the sql query preview and understanding why something isn't working
Just my 2 cents as I feel like a lot can be covered for many to gain from.
Anyone else want to suggest some topics that we can cue for the rest of the year? Maybe a lightening talk here and there for the other 2 meetups this quarter?

Hey everyone,
I'm new here. My first meetup was this week. Really enjoyed the discussions.
While we're on the topic of views, how about a "how to" showing how to use hook_views_api() and hook_views_data() or hook_views_data_alter() to expose custom tables and fields to the views UI?
In addition, how about a discussion on the pros/cons of using a view vs using an EFQ in a custom module?
