Session Leaders Needed! Volunteer in the comments or get in touch with an organizer.

Join us February 10, 2015 for a night of how-to sessions about the essential Views module in Drupal. There will be material for all levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced users.

Based on the feedback from last month's meetup and our successful meetup structure from last year, we are going to continue our site building series with 3 short (approximately 20 minute) how-to sessions from community members who are open to showing their process in building Views. We'll have 3 talks:

  • a UI (views_ui) demo for a basic view that demonstrates display modes (ex: node v fields v rss), filters, sorting (presenter needed!)
  • Oliver Seldman @otseld will present on Intermediate Views Configuration (in D8), where he'll touch on contextual filters (arguments) and relationships, while giving a general walkthrough of the Views UI in D8 (most of which is applicable in D7 as well).
  • a code demo showing how to call a view directly in a theme or custom module with $view->execute(); for example (presenter needed!)

We'll update this event with presenter information when it is available. Also, if there is time, we'll have some lightning talks at this meetup as well!

Every month experts guide our local community showcasing professional Drupal techniques, industry standards, and best practices. LA Drupal brings a spectacular lineup of topics and presentations centered around Drupal. We help users answer questions, and resolve issues with solutions surrounding planning, supporting, and developing with Drupal. Our meetups are a good place for Job seekers and employers to find talent. Also, we typically have raffle prizes including various Drupal books, DVD's, and subscriptions!!!

The Stauffer team has proudly supported the LA Drupal community for years and is excited to host LA Drupal meetups.

Presentation Details

We're unlocking the mysteries of the Views module this month with material for Drupal enthusiasts of all levels. If you have experience to share at any level, beginner, intermediate, or advanced, volunteer to share for 20 minutes this month. We're all about getting LA Drupal members over the humps of learning Drupal, no matter the stage they are at.

Presenters tonight:
Oliver is a Technical Lead at Advomatic, a development agency with deep roots in the Drupal community that focuses on building websites and tools to enable good causes. Some of our recent work includes projects for the ACLU, AFT, AlterNet, Rutgers, and the Department of State.

Your Name Here. Volunteer now!

If you have brief (5-minute) tips or tricks for using Views, bring those as well. Hopefully we'll have time for some lightning talks at the end.

Meetup Info

Users Helping Users and open Q&A

The general meetup begins at 7:00pm but the doors open a little earlier for Users Helping Users, which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal. Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bonafide consulting from a Drupal professional that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!

Lightning talks

There may be time for lightning talks at this meetup.

Job announcements

At the beginning of each meetup LA Drupal provides an opportunity for local businesses to make job announcements and ask for referrals and recommendations.

Raffle! Prizes! Collect them all!

We love our sponsors and have several raffle prizes from our sponsors in the Los Angeles area and around the world. If you or your company would like to sponsor a raffle prize at the LA Drupal meetups, please come early or contact the LA Drupal managers.

Breakout Groups

As we've occasionally done, if there's time we'll split up into groups (sometimes called BoFs, or birds of a feather) and each group can jump into a particular topic that's set at the beginning of the meetup. The topics for these BoFs so far have ranged from high performance websites, Features-driven development, PCI compliance and general "getting started" discussions.

What to bring

Bring a co-worker, maybe your laptop or tablet, but definitely bring your business cards for networking. We do a lot of networking!

Comments

Just get up there!

Well this sounds fantastic and is definitely where we should be headed as a group. So I am essentially commenting to tell everyone to step up and be that 20 minute person. It doesn’t need to be fancy. Just show others how you built your first view, or your 1000th!

I can do an Intermediate Views presentation

oseldman's picture

Hi Steve,

I can do an Intermediate Views presentation. I've contacted Tommy with some info and he's updated the event description to include the details.

See you later tonight!

Oliver

I've volunteered for the

stevenator's picture

I've volunteered for the advanced and there Ashok may have something to add. We can also query the room for other advanced ideas and/or presenters.

Does anyone who is newer to Drupal want to do a start from scratch view that returns a few articles with a sort and node/fields rendering? All stock Drupal, all out of the box? We can give you a default install or you could provide your own.

Let us know in the comments or at the meetup when you come in.
