I floated the idea of doing a DrupalCon in Los Angeles in Drupal Groups, with the thought that we could put in a proposal for Spring, 2009. Since then, Boris Mann informed me that the Drupal Association is actively seeking proposals for Spring 2008. This would make for an extremely tight schedule, with a lot of work to be done in the next 150 days.
Is there anyone who feels that this is something that we should pursue, and would like to step up in a (collaborative) leadership roll? If so, please speak up here, and feel free to contact me off list, if you wish.
I will attempt to field or refer any questions that you have about the process.
Thanks,
Cary Gordon

downtown Venues
I know that the Visitor's Bureau (LAINC. aka http://seemyla.com) and the downtown BID would be happy to facilitate all arrangements, only for the price of membership to LAINC. If you are going to try this, I recommend bringing their team(s) on board.
I am not going to try
I am not going to try anything unless other folks sign on. That said, this looks like a great resource.
signing on
If Drupalcon becomes a member of LAINC for the purpose of selecting and organinzing the conference around a downtown venue, I will help in the planning and selection of Venue and ancillary events, and also commit to attending downtown BID marketing meetings, where a lot of great work is done.
signing on
I would be available to help with this.
SoCal Linux Expo might assist in a DrupalCon ideas

SCALE is a yearly conference here in LA, and it's organizers might be open to having an additional room or two at the hotel dedicated to a DrupalCon Track. Well, it's a thought. Also, they are now very experienced at preparing for a large conference, and their experts might be available for discussing what is needed. In addition, they are now seeking volunteers for SCALE 2008, and it would be a valuable way to learn what is needed to host DrupalCon in 2009. Also, I do believe they are still soliciting speakers, and we might be able to have a full track of our own?
Count me in
I'd like to be on board.

We need to meet
Is anyone up for a meeting to discuss this? Next Tuesday or Wednesday? Some other day? My place in Mar Vista? Somewhere else?
Thanks!
pick time and place
And I will try to attend.
Since you're in the West side...
I'd recommend we meet up at our training facility off Abbott Kinney at the RMI (http://www.richmediainstitute.com/contact/). We have a few bathrooms, water, projector, wifi, chairs and tables galore. Let me know when (we're having a Flex competition here tonight).

+1 on RMI
+1 on RMI for DrupalConLA meetings and/or as an 'alternate venue' for other Drupal events. French Dip may not be a good as Philippe's, but I think RMI does have a big outdoor grill.

PepperAlley Productions

+ 1 for me also
Two of us from juxtaflo will be there.
Sorry

That's how many folks showed up tonight. If someone else would like to take this on, have at it.
Past Precedence
Does Drupalcon have guidelines for prospective organizers to follow? A list of requirements, milestones, for qualifying for a city as a candidate for this meeting? Any past organizers who have words of wisdom or experience to pass on?
not exactly what u r looking for but in the right direction
http://groups.drupal.org/node/6635
wasn't clear when you were meeting
For what its worth, I think part of the problem is this was never setup in a clear and concise manner (aka an event).
I am very interested in attending more LA Drupal get-togethers - this one didnt happen to fit my schedule - but I only happened to be aware of it because i read the ENTIRE thread... and it was still a little unclear.
I think a clean posting with a clean title would have helped.
