Is there an agenda?

mikey_p's picture

I was just wondering what was up for this meeting, I haven't been able to make it out to a meeting for some time and didn't know what the format was and was wondering if any presentations were needed? I was thinking about a beginner guide to the drupal.org issue queue and maybe, how to download and test patches. Any thoughts?

nice topic

I'd be interested in hearing about that.

We would love it if more folks suggested presentation ideas, especially when they are willing to present them too :-)

I'd also like to start a regular discussion topic where we briefly discuss a specific aspect of the LA Drupal site, how it's configured and used, how it could be improved, etc. This week, let's discuss events and calendar features.

Anyone else want to present something or see a particular topic addressed?

Of course, we'll also discuss job or project announcements, upcoming events and general Q & A.

LA Drupal Topics

mike stewart's picture

RE Topics: I am currently building a theme based on YUI. Once it is released, I'd be happy to present it. I also have quite a bit of experience with other 3rd party Drupal modules, and would be willing to discuss.

Regarding LA Drupal site topics: Will we post them here? Were you planning on discussing the events modules and how its used with LA Drupal - or were you hoping for other input? I'm interested in knowing how anyone else may have integrated other calendaring systems; especially google or yahoo shared calendars, or upcoming, etc.

I'll have something prepared..

..and if there is time and interest at the meeting, I'll be ready to go...anything from 5 to say 20 minutes or so. Is there still a projector available at these meetings? It would definitely be easiest to do a follow along with a live presentation at the front.

I'm planning on keeping this fairly simple, just finding the issue queue, filtering, searching, finding the appropriate queue for your issue, submitting your issue, and maybe a couple of basic tips on basic helping out in the issue queue, such as marking duplicates or misfiled issues. Probably no more than 5-10 minutes by my estimate, plus some time for questions.

Good to see you there, and a good meeting for sure. I would love to see a presentation on your YUI theme work nest time around. No worries about being late, I'm usually the late one....

BTW for any others interested, I've posted the presentation at my site at http://mikeyp.net/archives/2007/10/using_drupal_org_issue_queue.html.

Thanks for posting the

Thanks for posting the slides to your presentation. I wasn't able to make it yesterday, so it's cool to see what was presented. Great job on the slides!

a comment and a suggestion

If you feel like it's only 5-10 minutes of content to speak, you either are underestimating the content or you talk fast! No rush, 20-30 minutes would be a good amount of time to cover the topic and answer questions. Besides, I'm sure people will trickle in during the meeting.

Maybe we would even want to show how people can help answer issues that the group knows an answer to or a way to help that person test further. Most people will have laptops, so maybe if we do group issue assistance too, then people will feel more comfortable posting issues and helping others.

Although it's already over, this is still excellent advice. I ended up speaking for probably 25-30 minutes. (I wasn't watching the clock that closely so I'm not entirely sure) It probably could have been 45 minutes easy as there were topics that I know I rushed through. There were definitely some good questions, and I was reminded that this topic was more helpful for beginners and even some semi advanced users than I had previously thought it would be.
