This is a local user group for sharing knowledge about Drupal and networking with other folks in the greater Seattle web/tech community.
SeaDUG meets monthly to talk about Drupal, to plan related events, and to socialize. During SeaDUG meetings we showcase modules and projects, share tips and tricks, and answer nagging questions about Drupal.
We welcome participants from all skill levels and all disciplines related to website building and development - marketers, project managers, developers, designers, writers, devops, user researchers, QA, and more.
Stay in Touch
- Join the SeaDUG Slack workspace to chat regularly with other SeaDUG community members.
- Follow us on LinkedIn for more frequent news and Drupal-related content sharing.
Jobs
PLEASE do not post job offers in this group unless they are local to Seattle, or remote and open to people who live in Seattle. Any job posted to this group that is not in the Seattle/Puget Sound Metropolitan Area or open to its residents will be promptly removed.

CCK Taxonomy
I am evaluating modules for linking CCK nodes with Taxonomy vocabularies. I want to assign terms to CCK nodes and I want to import Taxonomy terms with other data using Node Import. Examples and suggestions are welcome. If anyone has used the modules listed below, I would like to hear about your experiences. (good, bad or ugly)

April DUG wrap-up
Quick recap of the April 19 Drupal User Group in Seattle. Next meeting is scheduled for May 24th.
For the developers among us and those looking to learn, a new book is now available that looks to be a comprehensive guide to developing in Drupal 5. Pro Drupal Development (Paperback) by John VanDyk & Matt Westgate, now shipping from Amazon.
Coders can find excellent articles and screencasts at Drupal Dojo http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-dojo and Lullabot. Also, some recommended modules to help with dev issues: Coder, Devel and Trace.
Discussed importing data into CCK nodes. No one seems to have achieved this yet and we're still searching for a clean solution.
John had pointed to this Drupal HOWTO http://drupal.org/node/133705, and there is also a recent article from Lullabot
http://www.lullabot.com/articles/quick_and_dirty_cck_imports. Still holding out hope for the Import/Export API.
We covered some aspects of MultiSite installations sharing the main Drupal codebase with site specific modules and themes. This generated much interest and would make a good demo at our next DrupalCamp. What other ideas does anyone have for presentations or demos?

Advanced Drupal Development/Training in Seattle
I'm interested in any recommendations folks have for consultants/agencies/contractors in the Seattle region who might be available for a large-scale Drupal installation.
Sorry to have my first post here be so vague (I'm probably breaking several rules of etiquette), however we're in the early stages of our Drupal work so I'd rather not go into the details publically.

After the DUG meeting tonight we were talking about hosting solutions for Drupal and thought it would be helpful to gather a list of our experiences.
So what hosting services that support Drupal do you know about, and which would you recommend? Do you use a managed solution or manually install yourself? How long have you used a particular service? What is your selection criteria: reliability, price, features, security, support, etc.?
Below are some previous threads on drupal.org that discuss the same topic...

Menu selection => logout
I need some help debugging a serious problem on my Drupal site.
Every Menu selection causes a logout, even for Admin (uid = 1).
If the page is not viewable by uid=0, I see the message
Access denied
You are not authorized to access this page.
I can login again as Admin and see the page, so the navigation is working. However, If I try to change anything on the page I get logged out again.
I posted a message on the main forum, but no one has responded yet.

Seattle DUG Meeting February
I have this in my calendar, but I guess it never made it up onto the G.D.O
Do we still want to meet on wednesday the 21st at 6? I think we talked about meeting at elliot bay?
I have a great project for us to work on that would be site specific in a way.
I have started to build a "Book Club" website that would allow users to create their own book clubs, personal libraries, etc... It needs a few more hours of configuration and testing for it to be ready.

Read moreNote to AJ: Blocking IP addresses
AJ,
After our last Seattle meeting I came across this method for blocking IP and host addresses:
administer > access control > access rules > add rule
Set up username and e-mail address access rules for new and existing accounts (currently logged in accounts will not be logged out). If a username or e-mail address for an account matches any deny rule, but not an allow rule, then the account will not be allowed to be created or to log in. A host rule is effective for every page view, not just registrations.
Access type:
( ) Allow
(x) Deny
Rule type:
( ) Username
Love Firefox and Drupal?
I thought you might be interested in some new plugins that work for Firefox. They provide a way to search drupal.org or api.drupal.org. If you do any kind of drupal play then you probably search drupal.org and if you are a developer you are definitely searching through the api site. They are a breeze to install so check it out:

Thoughts on a new location for the Seattle DUG meetings
While the food and beer are good at 6 Arms Ale House, the location is a little too loud and a little too dark to be conducive to good collaborative working and presentations.
So we're on the prowl again for a new location. I think we are going to scrap the "centrally located" requirement, and see how it goes.
I'd like to suggest Fremont Coffee on 35th Street where we could probably stake out space in one of the rooms.
any other suggestions?
I'd also like to propose that we set an agenda before the meeting including some presentations about sites, and modules.
