triDUG

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Only local images are allowed. Our mission is to connect Drupal users in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, North Carolina and surrounding areas. We get together monthly for presentations, site demonstrations, and hack nights. Our goal is to help new Drupal users get up to speed, foster the development of existing Drupal designers and Developers, and contribute to the larger Drupal community. The Research Triangle has a big concentration of technical folks, universities, and start-ups and we want to expose as many people as possible to Drupal and all that it offers.

TriDUG Meetup 6:30pm November 18th @ Hesketh.com

Start:
2010-11-18 18:30 - 21:00 America/New_York
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

Hello everyone!

Despite a small turnout, last month's meetup was very successful. As a group we covered current projects and helped debug issues with several of our group members' sites. We even managed to help bugfix a contributed theme!

Based on this I've decided to stick with the new open discussion format for the November meetup. If anyone in the group has a project they'd like to show off to the group we'd love to hear about it. Likewise if anyone in the group has an issue they'd like to get some help with the Nov. 18th meetup should prove to be a good venue.

Ability to include offers for specific dates:
-X% off
-X Euros off
-X nights for the price of X nights (3 nights for the price of 2)

Ability to assign “inventory” for direct sales

filtering status/error messages before display

I have two modules that are throwing warnings that I'm still trying to track down. In the meantime, they look very scary to my users and I want to filter them so they don't display to regular users. I've tried optionally displaying the message in the page.tpl.php file, but that's awful ugly and doesn't give me enough control on which part of the message to show.

Views slideshow ddblock

I' confused and having some trouble. I have views installed as well as views slideshow ddblock and all necessary modules. The problem I am encountering is trying to get content to the slideshow. It is on the home page at the bottom of the content. Currently the examples are showing, albeit not at the size I would like. How do I get the images I want to take the place of the examples? Driving me nuts. As always, thanks.

Meeting topic suggestion-module documentation

An issue related to module documentation I have is that a number of the modules such as imce and notifications have lots of available settings without much explanation regarding when to use what setting (how to make it work for you). I was thinking that perhaps this issue could be addressed in some manner by our meetup group by having someone who knows a particularly highly used module well to walk the group through the process for setting it up, with some explanation for what the different settings mean, how to customize for particular situations. Perhaps some kind of ‘breakout’ group?

Other issues resolved..... Now what has reared its head is this. Site home page is accessible. However as admin when I try to access site building/modules or for that matter reports/updates or anything the site just spins and thinks. After a bit the error message:

"Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, support@supportwebsite.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Oh the horror!

I was perusing jobs on craigslist and came across this hot mess.

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/web/1940436908.html

Live music Entertainment Agency celebrating 12 yr in business in Raleigh NC seeks a website remodel.
Currently useing outdated program and seek complete fresh look. The website must have Microsoft Front Page editing
capabilities.
The lowest bidder wins the job.

This alone disproves the hypothesis of evolution. I can't imagine this dude is a savvy business person. "Must have Front Page"? "Lowest bidder wins the job"?!?!? Sheesh.

Admin themes

Which do you prefer and why? Rootcandy, Admin Menu, or Admin module?

I started with Admin Menu. Loved it.

Then I discovered Root Candy, even better.

Now I am seeing Admin module (where it uses a left column for admin menu functions).

I am trying to figure out which one is best and why. So, I turn to you for input!

how to get a taxonomy term from the term's name in the url

Ok, so it's probably apparent right now that I'm working with taxonomy. So ... here's the current dilemma:

I'm trying to get a taxonomy term via a url. The problem is that only the taxonomy's name appears in the URL. Ordinarily (ha! this is my first module, so there is no "ordinary") I would use "taxonomy_get_term_by_name()", BUT the problem there is that the taxonomy term in the URL has all the bad characters escaped, and spaces turned into dashes. Sooo ... can't do that. So, what do I do?
