Drupal for Good

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This group is a place to share ideas, organize and generally put our heads together regarding how Drupal is, and can be, used for nonprofit, charitable and social justice purposes.

Join us on the third Thursday of every month, at 1:00 PM U.S. Eastern for our group meeting by phone. View our next discussion date.

All calls are free and everyone is welcome! While "#npdrupal" refers to "nonprofit Drupal" (similar to "#nptech") our focus is broader than just nonprofit/NGO-specific uses of Drupal and encompasses all "Drupal for good" work like advocacy, community organizing, fundraising, and campaigns.

Our meetings take place at 1:00 PM US-Eastern/10:00 AM US-Pacific/19:00 CEST. (Convert to your local time zone.)

Request for Assistance: Drupal Set-Up for Two Non-Profits

I am totally new to Drupal and unsure how to set Drupal up in a way that makes sense for multiple non-profit orgs helping the poor and marginalized here in Columbia, Mo. I would like to connect with someone who can help me build up a stable Web presence such that multiple people can contribute to a site but it retains its "non-Drupal appearance" (at least to some degree) and allows for a singular editorial voice.

Nonprofit Drupalers signup sheet from Drupalcons DC and SF

Posting this here as I'm not sure what else to do with it:

At the Drupalcons in San Francisco (2010) and DC (2009) folks got together for Drupal for Good-type BoFs. In DC I think that Ivan (rootwork) and I created a Google Doc and collected folks' info, saying we'd do SOMETHING with it. The something that we did was bring it to Drupalcon SF, where more folks signed up. I don't think we ever came up with a clear plan of what to do with this, but I've got a doc of 50 names, email addresses, URLs, and D.o & Twitter handles.

Report on Content Management Systems Powering Foundation Websites

Hello all,

I wanted to share an interesting result of some research we just completed on how Foundations are (or are not) using Open Source CMSs, like Drupal to power their own websites. This really was a tangent of another report we're working on but we found it interesting enough to share on our blog.

Our curiosity lead us to look at the top 885 Foundations with websites (based on endowment size), and we used a browser plug-in to determine how the sites were built. We were able to clearly identify the technology powering 478 of the 885 Foundation websites (54%).

Open university system

Hello friends!
I hear at the acquia webinar that OpenScholar planing to integrate some university functional.
I discussed few projects for universities and large medical centers and I think that such sites need microsites with own spaces and features for faculties or departments.
I decided to built this system. I think this system could be very expected, because it meets requirments of large communities. Imagine community of some association with main site and many microsites of organizations who make this community.

Openlayers + Rules. Anyone done it? Any guidelines?

New to Openlayers, OL Proximity, and Rules. They all seem to be working.

Would like to notify users when nodes are published / updated based on geographic proximity, i.e. node is published with a location within 50 miles of a user. It is for a missing pet web site.

Anyone with experience integrating the two? Am going to try to figure out today. Thanks.

Missing Pet Web Site - proximity browsing

I have developed a missing pet web site and want to add a proximity feature, in Views I am guessing.

Each node represents a pet, with users searching by geography to locate reported pets.

I have tried the Location module, ~ 30 hours, can not get proximity to work, may be zip code database issue, no firm idea.

Openlayer - can not find a tutorial but I think it can do this without a zipcode database which would be ideal, am going to keep trying with this for now

Geo - have heard it can do this, no idea how, got an install error.

Drupal Guilds & Open Guilds

FYI, I've just submitted a group for Drupal Guilds & Open Guilds, which is a concept that I've been brewing for about a year now (based on discussions and other ideas that have taken a decade or more to gel). I've finally begun writing down some of my ideas for this this summer, and have decided it's time to open the concept for further discussion and debate. Without further ado, here is the elevator pitch for this grassroots organization:
